This is a T2 356A Speedster, built in 1958, the end of Speedster production; it is the best 356A to drive, with matching numbers. It is equipped with chrome Rudge wheels and finished in the original color combination of Ivory (5704) over Red upholstery. Factory equipment includes U.S. chrome overrider bumpers and sealed beam headlights.
The Light Ivory paintwork is flawless, and the brightwork and aluminum trim are stunning, with perfect gaps and panel fit. The upholstery is also in perfect condition, featuring Speedster seats with white piping, complemented by a black canvas soft top, a boot cover, and German oatmeal square-weave carpets. The dash contrasts beautifully against the VDO instrumentation and the VDM steering wheel with a deluxe horn ring. The date-coded 4 x 15 KPZ Rudge wheels are fitted with Michelin XZX 165 HR15 tires. The undercarriage is solid and rust-free, and the suspension components and undercarriage have been beautifully detailed.
European Collectibles did a concours restoration on this 1958 Speedster over a 22-month period. During the restoration, this 356 was completely disassembled so that every aspect could be properly addressed. The body and panels are all matching. All panels were pre-fitted with the bumpers, overrider bars, windshield frame, and a soft top frame to ensure the absolute best result. All the chrome was triple-plated, and all of the components were restored or replaced. All the seals and aluminum trim were replaced. The interior was reupholstered in red, German carpets were installed, and a black canvas soft top and boot cover were fitted. The matching engine and transmission were completely rebuilt, along with the drum brakes and electrical system.
