Classic Car Overview
The 356A bridges early Porsche simplicity with updates that enhance drivability. It marked the end of the Pre-A era and introduced refinements in 1959 before the 356B launched with new proportions and styling. This model represents a turning point in Porsches history, balancing early design charm with improved mechanics.
THIS PORSCHE 356A CABRIOLET
Delivered on December 30, 1958, this car resided in Michigan before moving to the East Coast in 2014. Discovered under a tarp in the 1990s by Tom Kayser, it was initially mistaken for a Notchback. After verifying its VIN, Tom purchased it in 2002, uncovering a unique history tied to Kalamazoos Boogie Records. Through the 356 Registry, Tom identified sister cars, all originally painted Silver Metallic.
MOST RECENT UPGRADES
Current owner Kobus Reyneke has enhanced the car for touring and concours events. Following $26,000 in 2018/19 engine and gearbox work, the car now performs flawlessly for long-distance travel. Upgrades included:
Engine overhaul with new crankshaft bearings
Gearbox overhaul with a longer 4th gear
New wheels and tires
