Classic Car Overview
This 1958 Mercedes-Benz 220S Cabriolet is one of approximately 2,178 examples produced between 1956 and 1959 and is finished in dark blue over tan leather upholstery with a beige convertible soft top. A distinguished postwar Mercedes-Benz open tourer, it is powered by a 2.2-liter inline-six equipped with dual carburetors and paired with a column-shifted four-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels.
Factory output was rated at 99 horsepower and 101 lb-ft of torque. The car is finished in its current dark blue and features chrome bumpers with overriders, a hood ornament, fender-mounted turn signals, and driving lights with yellow lenses. It rides on 15-inch steel wheels with covers wrapped in whitewall tires, and braking is handled by four-wheel drum brakes.
The cabin is upholstered in tan leather with perforated inserts and features matching door panels, square-weave carpets, wood dashboard and trim, vent windows, and sisal floor mats. Additional equipment includes a Becker stereo mounted in the glovebox along with a beige convertible top boot. Instrumentation consists of a horizontal 120-mph speedometer as well as gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level, plus an analog clock.
The car was acquired in 2022 and has been used sparingly for leisure driving since. The odometer showed approximately 54,000 miles at that time, and approximately 500 miles have been added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. Service records note replacement of the fuel pump and repair of the carburetor, while prior work is said to have included repairs to the exhaust manifold and sections of the exhaust system.
This 220S Cabriolet presents as a charming and stylish example with an appealing color combination, elegant coachwork, and desirable factory configuration. Cosmetic imperfections consistent with age are noted, including wear to the soft top and other age-related blemishes. It is offered as an attractive and usable classic Mercedes-Benz suitable for vintage touring, local shows, and continued enjoyment.
