This truly rare piece of Americana has had a frame up restoration and is 75% complete. Due to a recent major back surgery, we are unfortunately unable to complete the work ourselves. We put hundreds and hundreds of hours and many thousands of dollars into this project. The car can be driven and the motor runs strong and the transmission shifts smoothly. Below is a list of all of the rebuilding work that was done, all of the new parts that we installed, all the new parts that we purchased but still need to be installed and all the work that still needs to be completed. The body work was done with minimal amounts of bondo and sanded using a long board and small hand sanding blocks. The body is now straight as an arrow. The car was never in a major accident and the frame is straight as are all suspension components. The motor was rebuilt by a previous owner but the car sat for quite a while so don’t know how many miles are on that overhaul. The motor runs smoothly and sounds really tight, but does produce some blow by until it gets warmed up. My mechanic says that this condition will most likely improve with miles driven. See below for more details. This Bel Air has the 348 engine, the first of Chevys big blocks. The engine is a strong runner and we replaced or rebuilt everything on the outside of the motor including: New Edelbrock 600 CFM 4 barrel carburetor, new custom air cleaner, all new ignition system and wires, new starter, rebuilt generator, all new wiring loom to engine and lights from the firewall forward. New heavy duty aluminum radiator, custom 5 blade fan, all new brass freeze plugs, new water pump, new heater core and heater fan motor, all new radiator and heater hoses. New motor mounts, new battery, new fuel pump and fuel lines. New brake shoes, rebuilt master cylinder and all four wheel cylinders, new brake hoses. Four new classic wide white wall tires, new baby moon hub caps, all new dual exhaust system with classic glass pack mufflers. The custom paint job is PpG Delfleet single stage Urethane and it was applied by a professional paint shop. On the underside of the car there are new shock absorbers and we rebuilt the steering control arm and installed a new idler arm. The bottom of the car has been undercoated to lower the noise level inside the car and the frame and all suspension parts were painted black. The driveshaft was removed and rebalanced and all new universal joints were installed along with a new carrier bearing assembly. A new bearing and seal were installed on the differential input shaft. New wheel bearings were installed on all four wheels. All interior metal work was painted cream color to match the top half of the car. We purchased new custom made black carpeting with thick padding. We rebuilt the two front vent windows with new glass and new seals. We replaced one new door window glass and the others are in good shape. Included also is a new custom cream colored headliner and 2 matching sun visors and 4 arm rest. The dash board has a new ignition switch, light switch, wiper switch and aluminum trim kit. We installed a new windshield wiper motor and bushings. The parts still needed are a new windshield, new rear window and front grill. The seats and door panels still need to be upholstered. We have most of the exterior moldings but they will need to be polished and some need to be straightened. The bumpers are in very good shape but need to be re-chromed. We have many new parts that we purchased to complete the interior that are included. We have a clear and current title in my name.
