VW Kombi Van Seeing Resurgence in Popularity

The Volkswagen Kombi van reached iconic status, with even a school lunch box fashioned in its image. During those early years, the Volkswagen Microbus morphed into various forms. From a cargo carrier with no windows behind the driver's seat to a windowed passenger van with three rows of seats, the possibilities seemed endless.

Classic Car Overview

Asking 300,000 EUR

  • 150,000 recently invested
  • One of just 45 examples produced, said to be the the final original survivor
  • Desirable LS (Lago Sport) model
  • Retains its original engine
  • Acquired by the most recent private owner since 1969

A total of just 45 Talbot Lago T14 2500s were produced. Its believed only seven or eight examples left the factory as LS-version, being the Lago Sport. This Talbot Lago T14 LS 2500 Sport was originally delivered to Monsieur Damiron. Its the second to last produced Talbot Lago T14 LS, only one chassis was produced after this car. According to the built sheet we have on file, the car was fitted with an all synchronized four-speed ZF gearbox, instead of the cheaper Pont--Mousson transmission. Furthermore, the car has its original matching numbers 2,500 cc engine. When delivered new, the coachwork was metallic grey with Mastil 2500 vinyl and fabric interior and the car was fitted with Robergel enamel wheels, heating, defrosting, and sun visors. We are happy to confirm the car survived completely in the same specification as it left the factory.

With a huge thanks to historians Marc Rabineau and Nicolas Maier, we have a complete documented history of our Talbot Lago T14 LS.

The first owner, Mr Paul Damiron, President and General Manager of Wean-Damiron, located 56 Avenue Hoche Paris, registered the car with plates 4020 FS 75 on 9 January 1957. On 12 February, 1958 the car went to the second owner, a Mr. Lucien Charuet. In 1962, he moved to another city and so the registration changed to 8532 EG 78. The third owner, Mr Alberto Bernard registered the car with plates 2553 MY 75 on 8 November 1962. The fourth owner would keep the car for almost two years, Mr. Andre Georges Gressier registered the car with plates 6484 EZ 78 and drove it between September 1963 and July 1965. Mr. Andre Georges Ovalde would buy the car in July 1965. The car was registered with plates 6656 RT 75. The last custodian, Mr. Fromentin, acquired the Talbot Lago for 5.500 France Francs. He registered the car on October 31, 1969, with plate 9615 L 94. On May 3, 1970, the car entered with number 28 in the Coupe de lage dOr at Montlhry finishing 7th in the competition class. In the history file, we have some invoices from work carried out in the early 1970s, including the famous Talbot workshop Georges Grignard . The last recorded mileage was 71.962 kilometers on June 24, 1971. It seems that the car was parked a few days later, as the mileage was 72.035 when we acquired the car in March 2022.

The car was discovered at the beginning of 2022 and acquired by Real Art on Wheels immediately. With a total production run of only 45 examples and the majority in restored condition, this is one of the most original T14 LS in existence according to Talbot Lago historian Nicolas Maier.

In the past years, we have carried out a precise conserving restoration. The engine and ZF gearbox are completely overhauled. All electric wiring has been renewed with correct material. The interior seats, door panels, and headlining are still in very good and original condition, cleaned and detailed. New tires and brakes. Nothing is forgotten. Over 150.000 EUR is invested in this car after our purchase. The car is mechanically completely restored while preserving its irreplaceable patina.
