Classic Car Overview
An unusual find......acquired from the second owner who acquired (of course) from the original long term first owner. With 18,000 original miles since new. Left hand drive.
The last owner told us the original owner used it around town as did he. Just for local use. And that the 18,000 indicated miles is accurate. And judging from the gas station service sticker in the door jamb, it has covered 400 miles since 2016. It fires up instantly, runs perfectly, its 34hp engine is certainly ample for around town or country roads, top speed is 70 mph or so.
Everything feels 'tight,' precise light steering, comfortable ride, both instruments work as do all lights, brakes work well as does the handbrake. And even the horn works.
We went over the fenders and rockers with a magnet and found no indication of plastic filler. Floors are sound as are spring mounts and jacking points. Some surface rust but no serious rot or perforation. Paint is older but has a nice shine and minimal orange peel....VERY acceptable. And no sign of wood rot although a good sand and several coats of urethane would do wonders.
In the interior, front and rear seats have been reupolstered and look great. Carpets, interior panels, dash, and headliner are all in good condition. And has its original spare wheel/tire, original jack, and tools.
No smoke on cold start or running at operating temperature. Oil pressure light goes out and stays out when driving, even at idle. We did a compression test and found it to be 140-150 psi in every cylinder. As it typical, makes usual BMC gearbox noises in 1st (which is non synchronized) but is quiet in all other gears, has excellent synchromesh action, clutch works well, and we just installed new seat belts. Either 'as is' or with some relatively easy aesthetic improvements, it is a dandy, super low mileage, very original Traveler which we suspect has plenty of life left in it. And, of course, we could fit a larger (1100 or 1275cc) engine, a later gearbox, fit disc brakes, repaint the exterior in any color, sand and urethane the wood, most anything a prospective buy wants.
An easy to maintain, very useful classic car.
