Classic Car Overview
For sale is my 99% complete project, stalled out due to a bad rotator cuff and advancing years. It is not a white glove Pebble Beach car, but has very solid bones and would be ideal for a daily driver for a 140 lover.
It was originally sold by Hornburg in Los Angeles and has been a California car all its life. It was originally fitted out with an automatic transmission in pastel blue with red interior. Chassis # S 815417 BW, Body # J6082, Engine # G6979-8S, transmission # 12000. A Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate # 72889 verifies the above information. The car is currently titled in California as a 1957 with the chassis # being the ID # shown on the title. The original ID tag with the above numbers is attached to the LH inner fender.
Little history of the car is known, but the California plate that came with the car was manufactured in 1963, so it probably changed hands at least once from 1957 to 1963. The story as related by the seller was that the car had been disassembled sometime in the 70s to be restored and modified to a standard transmission and the project stalled at some point and the car sat in storage for 5 decades. When received it was a classic basket case with boxes of parts. At some point in the modification process, the original engine and transmission had gone missing and were replaced with a 3.8 litre motor (block and head # R-2250-9) and a Moss 4 speed gearbox (#EB14747 JS).
