The 1957 Ford Thunderbird represents the final and most refined year of the first-generation Baby Birds, a car that helped define the American personal luxury car market. Combining elegant styling with V8 performance, the 1957 model remains one of the most sought-after Thunderbirds ever produced. Finished in beautiful black, this example presents as a clean, driver-quality classic thats ready to be enjoyed on weekend cruises, local car shows, or scenic drives with the top down.
The glossy black exterior is complemented by the original Ford chrome wire wheels wrapped in classic wide whitewall tires that perfectly capture the Thunderbirds timeless appearance. The paint presents beautifully overall with only minimal imperfections consistent with a well-maintained driver-quality vehicle. There is no bubbling visible in the finish, and the body retains clean, straight lines throughout. While it looks excellent as it sits, we believe a professional paint correction and detail would further enhance the depth and shine of the paint.
Power comes from the desirable 312 cubic inch Thunderbird V8 equipped with the coveted E-Code which came originally with a dual four-barrel carburetor setup, making this one of the most sought-after powertrain combinations available in 1957. Although this Thunderbird was born with a dual four-barrel carburetor setup, it has been changed to a single four-barrel carburetor for better reliability. Backed by a smooth-shifting automatic transmission and equipped with both power steering and power brakes, this Thunderbird delivers an enjoyable driving experience with plenty of V8 performance while remaining comfortable and easy to cruise.
Inside, the original white and black vinyl bench seat interior has been well preserved and maintains the classic look that made these Thunderbirds so iconic. The original dashboard, gauges, and trim remain in place, along with the original Thunderbird rubber floor mats that are becoming increasingly difficult to find. The factory radio is still installed, though it is currently inoperable. The odometer is showing 34,504 miles, although actual mileage is unknown due to the vehicles age.
The black vinyl convertible soft top presents nicely overall and operates as intended. There is one small pinhole tear in the material, as shown in the accompanying photos, but otherwise the top remains in attractive condition. Also included with the sale is an aftermarket removable hardtop manufactured by Parish Plastics. The hardtop is complete but will require refinishing should the next owner wish to restore and install it.
The underside of this Thunderbird is just as impressive as the exterior. The car has always been stored indoors during inclement weather, which has helped preserve its condition over the years. The underbody is exceptionally solid and free of any significant rust or rot issues, making it an excellent foundation for continued enjoyment. It is evident this Thunderbird has been cared for throughout its life and has avoided the corrosion that often affects classics of this era.
Mechanically, this Thunderbird runs and drives exceptionally well, making it an ideal classic to enjoy immediately while continuing to preserve or improve over time. It offers the perfect combination of originality, desirable factory equipment, and honest driver-quality presentation.
If youve been searching for a beautifully styled first-generation Thunderbird, this 1957 Ford Thunderbird deserves a serious look. With its striking black exterior, original interior, desirable E-Code 312 V8, power steering, power brakes, automatic transmission, original wire wheels, exceptionally solid rust-free underbody, and included removable hardtop, this is an excellent opportunity to own one of Fords most iconic and collectible American classics.
