Classic Car Overview

1957 Ford Thunderbird for sale.  This is the third and last year of the “Little Bird” Thunderbird.  For the 1958 model, a rear seat was added, and the overall length of the vehicle was increased.

I discovered this 1957 gem as it sat in a warehouse in central California for over 25 years.  I bought it from the son of the second owner.  I was told by the seller that this car was bought in California and remained in California its entire life.  I located a California Inspection Sticker on the windshield from the early 1970’s validating this statement.  After sitting for so long, it needed some TLC which is why I bought it.  This Thunderbird is Inca Gold as indicated by the VIN number.

I enjoyed restoring this Thunderbird.  I placed an emphasis on detail with the mindset of remaining stock.

It now starts and runs really well with no smoke out of the exhaust.  It drives smoothly and I am most impressed with the way the Thunderbird feels while driving into my driveway and over roadway bumps.

This gem has a factory 312 V8 engine with a 4 barrel carburetor that produces 245 rated horsepower.  It is equipped with factory power steering, power brakes, power seats and power windows which makes it unique among 1957 Thunderbirds.

Below is a list of major parts that I have replaced.  These 4 components deserve special recognition as they are not on any other 1957 Thunderbird that I have seen for sale:

1)      *I replaced the factory AM radio with a modern AM/FM, Bluetooth equipped stereo that is an exact match to the factory AM radio.  Along with the stereo, I replaced the single speaker in the dashboard with a stereo speaker and added a two speaker stereo panel hidden behind the driver seat which completes the four speaker stereo system.

2)      *The factory white wall bias-ply tires were replaced with modern radial tires which handle and perform like modern tires.  The difference is that these tires look like the bias-ply tires that came with a 1957 vehicle but feel and perform like modern radial modern tires.  The replacement tires even have the signature “pie crust” pattern of the 1950’s.

3)      *I had both the front and rear bumpers re-chromed.

4)      *New battery.  This looks like the stock battery but it is a Ford sealed script “Power Punch” maintenance free, limited warranty, absorbed glass mat model #32NPP.  This is a modern battery that requires no maintenance with a 1 year full transferrable warranty and a 3 year prorated warranty after that.

If I have not bored you too much, here is a list of the major parts that I have replaced:

*New battery tray

*New 4-row radiator to replace the factory 3-row radiator.

*New water pump

*New carburetor (4 Barrel Holley)

*New brake master cylinder

*New brake shoes, wheel cylinders and hardware (4 wheels)

*New gas tank

  New truck carpet kit

*Windshield washer pump and fluid bag

*New door panels

*New generator and alternator

*New padding in the seat

*New heater core

*New electric 2 speed windshield wiper motor that replaces the unreliable stock vacuum motor

*New 14” steel wheels

*stock or stock looking item

I have had fun restoring this gem, now it is time to own the car of your dreams!
