Wed venture very few would name off a 1957 Dodge D-501 Coronet. Its been over 66 years since the short lived program came to a screeching halt when NASCAR outlawed the D-501 in May of 1957. This documented provenance not only enhances its historical value but also provides a glimpse into the lives of those who cherished this car across the decades. Mr. Miller painfully searched for a real D-501 for nearly 10 years before purchasing this example from 57 Heaven in Arizona. Time hadnt been kind to the iconic Mopar, but over the next few years Milller would work with some of the biggest names in the industry to accurately restore this iconic rarity to an absolute showstopper. Powered by the original 354-cu.in. Chrysler Hemi that was ultimately the reason the program was unfortunately banned from NASCAR. The restoration of the engine was performed by professionals including Don Brown of Burlington, North Carolina, who ordinarily works on factory lightweight Fords. He was responsible for restoring the fuel system. The Penske Racing engine shop and founding Holman-Moody engine man Pete Taylor performed the rebuild on the engine.
