Classic Car Overview

This 1957 Chevrolet Nomad is a sporty classic station wagon with great options and an even better look! In October 1956, Chevrolet introduced its 1957 model line to its dealer network with the new models all sporting a brand new design, both inside and out, yet they still retained a quintessential Chevrolet look. One of the most substantial upgrades in 1957 for Chevrolet was the introduction of its 283 V8 engine which offered 18 additional cubic inches of displacement from the previous years 265 V8. Looking at the 1957s appearance from the front, the 1957 Chevys wore a completely new-look grille and redesigned bumper mounted below flatter hoods that were accented with a pair of bright wind splints. Additionally, the Bel Air line hoods were outfitted with a gold anodized V emblem and Chevrolet script, that together elevated the top-of-the-line Bel Air above the intermediate 210 and entry-level 150 models. Of course, the most iconic aspect of the 57 Chevy is apparent when looking from the side profile; that is, the large fins protruding from the rear quarter panels that gave the the car its iconic silhouette and on the premium Bel Air models, the fins were even more dressed up with additional trim. The Bel Air interiors were also exceptionally gorgeous for Chevrolets most luxurious line. From the beautifully trimmed upholstery to the brand new dash design, and more, there is no question that the 1957 Bel Air sat atop the model hierarchy in the GM marques lineup. The most expensive, and the rarest, 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air was its 2-door station wagon model known as the Nomad. Known for its unique roofline and window layout, the Nomad is among one of the most collectible 57 Chevys. Additionally, because of its sportier 2-door design, it makes for a really neat car to take on a cruise and show off at the local car show. In total, a mere 6,103 Nomad station wagons were produced in 1957 which makes this particular example an ultra rare Tri-Five Chevy. This particular example comes to us from southern collectors who clearly cared for the car while under their stewardship. Under the hood on this 57 Nomad is a 283 cubic inch V8 engine fed by a single 4 barrel carburetor that together were known as the Power Pack rated to produce 220 horsepower when new. The 283 V8 is backed by a Powerglide Automatic transmission which makes this Nomad an easy wagon for anybody to drive. Exhaust exits the Power Pack powerplant via a dual exhaust setup that produces a wonderful sound out of the tailpipes. This 57 Chevy Nomad comes loaded with options! With power brakes on all 4 wheels, bringing this peppy Nomad to a complete stop is much easier. Speaking of the wheels, this Nomad rides on a set of wide whitewall tires mounted on steel wheels that are capped off with full chrome wheelcovers, which together give this iconic Wagon a truly 50s look. Power steering is another welcome addition on this 1957 Chevy Nomad since it makes squeezing into and out of tight spaces almost effortless, whether youre pulling into the local car show or leaving the ice cream parlor. This Nomads body has been correctly refinished in India Ivory over Tropical Turquoise paint, completing the exterior look with some true 50s flair. The interior of this 1957 Chevrolet Nomad is gorgeous! The front and rear seats have been correctly reupholstered in Turquoise vinyl with patterned black & turquoise fabric inserts. The turquoise padded dash, color-matched door panels, matching carpeting and steering wheel all retain a nice stock look and all show particularly well. The instrument cluster also remains in its tock configuration, outfitted with a 120 MPH speedometer, temperature gauge, and fuel gauge, along with indicator lights. The dash is finished off with a locking glovebox, clock, ashtray, and various controls. Whether youre buying your first classic station wagon or youre adding to your collection of Tri-Five Chevys, this 1957 Chevrolet Nomad would make an excellent choice.
