Classic Car Overview

The Austin Healey 100/6 sits in the middle of what collectors call the Big Healeys, the three-model lineage that began with the original 100 in 1953 and ended with the 3000 in 1967. Donald Healey built these cars around a simple idea: go 100 miles per hour, look good doing it, and do it for less money than a Jaguar. The 100/6 brought a 2.6 liter inline six to the formula, and 1957 was the year Healey introduced a new cast aluminum six-port intake manifold with larger valves and higher compression that jumped power from 101 to 117 horsepower, making this one of the strongest versions of the 100/6 ever built. This one is finished in Colorado Red with a black convertible top, chrome wire wheels, and chrome bumpers, and it carries itself the way a British roadster from this era should.

Under the hood is that 2.6 liter inline six backed by a four speed manual transmission. With twin SU carburetors and 117 horsepower on tap, the 100/6 was capable of reaching 104 miles per hour and hitting 60 in around 10 seconds, numbers that made it genuinely competitive in a sports car market that included the MG, the Triumph TR3, and the early Porsche 356. It pulls with a smooth, linear character that rewards a driver who knows how to use the gears, and the four speed puts you exactly where you need to be on every stretch of road.

Inside, the black leather interior is paired with a wooden steering wheel that gives the cockpit the handmade, personal feel that defines cars from this era. A battery cutoff in the trunk is a practical touch for a car that gets stored and shown. A luggage rack on the rear rounds out a roadster that is as usable as it is beautiful.

Before the 100/6 ever went on sale to the public, Donald Healey took special competition versions to the Bonneville Salt Flats, with Carroll Shelby among the drivers, and they broke 28 international and American speed records. That is the legacy behind the badge on this car. A Colorado Red 100/6 with chrome wire wheels and the 117 horsepower specification is exactly the Big Healey that the market has been paying serious attention to as values on clean examples continue to move.
