Vehicle Overview
This 1956 Willys CJ-5 is finished in blue over black vinyl and is powered by a 134ci F-head inline-four cylinder engine paired with a three-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Equipment includes 16 steel wheels, locking front hubs, a black soft top, removable doors, a receiver hitch, a fold-down windshield, lap belts and a power take off (PTO) winch. The seller reportedly acquired the jeep around 1998, and maintenance since 2020 have included the replacement of the radiator and thermostat, a rebuild of the starter, and the rewiring of the turn signals, flashers, and brake lights. This CJ-5 is now offered with spare and removed parts, manufacturers literature, and a clean California title in the sellers name.
The Willys CJ-5 is titled to the reproduction serial number plate shown in the photo gallery. The California title is noted as a duplicate.
Mechanical
The stock 134ci F-head inline-four is equipped with a downdraft carburetor and a 6V electrical system. The seller states that the fuel tank was replaced in 2000 and that the radiator and thermostat were replaced in 2020. The oil and oil bath air filter are said to have been changed around 2023, and the starter was reportedly rebuilt in 2023. Engine runs great. See video footage.
Exterior
In 2002-2003, the exterior (and interior) body had been stripped down to bare metal, re-primed and re-painted with an original 1956 Comet Blue color, following the application of minor body filler on the tailgate. The seller states that the front bumper was replaced in 2003 and that the turn signals, flashers, and brake lights were rewired in April 2023. The front bumper-mounted PTO winch does not currently operate but likely only needs some gear oil and know how for proper operation. Some paint blemishes and small bubbles and spots of corrosion are shown up close on the hood and drivers side front quarter panel, as shown in the photo gallery. White-finished 16 steel wheels are wrapped in brand new Firestone 7.00-16, non-directional, 6-ply military tires with brand new matching spare mounted on the right side. The truck is equipped with locking front hubs and four-wheel drum brakes.
Interior
The interior features a folding split front bench vinyl seat and body-colored floors. Equipment includes a passenger grab bar, lap belts, and a storage compartment under the passenger seat. The locking mechanism for the glove box is missing. The drivers side windshield wiper runs via a toggle switch using vacuum from the engine manifold, and the passenger side windshield wiper is manual. Minor corrosion is present on the driver and passenger side floors only. Diamond plate covers the rear floor board. A replacement multi-function gauge containing a speedometer, an odometer, and coolant temperature and fuel level gauges is said to have been fitted in April 2023, and an aftermarket oil pressure gauge is housed to the right of it. A pull throttle is located next to the steering column. The five-digit odometer shows 28 miles and total mileage is unknown, assumed to be < 100 throughout current sellers ownership of rig.
