Classic Car Overview

There is only one thing rarer than a beautifully restored collector cara collector car that never needed restoring. Mashburn Motors is honored to offer what would be difficult to imagine finding a more original, better-preserved 1956 Plymouth Plaza two-door sedan anywhere. This remarkable Plymouth has remained in the same family since it was purchased new from Raynal Brothers Chrysler-Plymouth in Detroit, Michigan, and today shows just 19,291 original miles. In nearly four decades of specializing in exceptionally original, low-mileage automobiles, very few vehicles have impressed us the way this Plymouth has. Finished in its believed-to-be original factory powder blue with a eggshell white roof, this Plaza has never undergone a restoration. Instead, it has simply been preserved. Every panel, every survivor detail, and every honest sign of age tells the story of a car that was cared for rather than rebuilt. Open the hood and youll find Chryslers legendary 230 cubic-inch Flathead Six, still nestled in an engine compartment that remains remarkably original. The engine starts immediately, idles beautifully, and runs as smoothly as a Swiss watch. Even details that almost never surviveincluding the original date-coded spark plug wires and factory grease-pencil inspection markingsremain in place today. Power is delivered through Plymouths innovative Push-Button PowerFlite automatic transmission, one of the most distinctive features of 1956 Mopars. This is also a factory 12-volt electrical system, another example of Plymouths engineering advancements for the era. The braking system has recently been serviced with new drivers-side upper and lower front wheel cylinders, and the car stops confidently and drives exactly as an exceptionally well-preserved 19,000-mile Plymouth should. Step inside and youre immediately transported back to 1956.The original interior remains beautifully preserved. The seats spent much of their lives protected beneath vintage plastic seat covers, helping preserve the original upholstery underneath. The original dashboard, steering wheel, gauges, door panels, rubber floor coverings, and headliner remain wonderfully intact. Even the original Open Cowl Vent for Fresh Air Heat tag and Push-Button PowerFlite operating instruction card are still presentsmall details that collectors appreciate because they almost never survive. Open the trunk and youll find another highlight of this extraordinary survivor. The original trunk floor is exceptionally solid and remarkably well preserved, complete with the original spare tire, jack, and survivor finishes that restorers spend thousands of dollars trying to duplicate. Throughout the car youll continue discovering authentic factory details, markings, and finishes that simply disappear once a vehicle has been restored. The documentation accompanying this Plymouth is equally impressive. Included are the original owners manual, Owner Service Certificate, keys, dealership paperwork, and additional original literature that help document this cars remarkable history from new. As expected of an unrestored 70-year-old survivor, youll find a few minor paint chips and the honest signs of careful use accumulated over nearly seven decades. We believe those imperfections are part of this Plymouths authenticity and are exactly what distinguish an original survivor from a restored automobile. Nothing has been hidden beneath fresh paint or cosmetic restoration. What you see is a genuine, highly original automobile that has earned every bit of its character honestly. Survivor cars become rarer every year because they are only original once. Once factory paint, finishes, markings, and assembly details are lost, they can never truly be recreated. This Plymouth still proudly wears those decades of history. Whether youre a serious Mopar collector, a preservation-class enthusiast, or simply someone who appreciates automobiles that have escaped restoration, opportunities like this seldom come along. Finding another one-family-owned, unrestored 1956 Plymouth Plaza with just 19,291 original miles, original documentation, original paint, original interior, and this level of authenticity would be extraordinarily difficult. If youve been searching for an authentic 1956 Plymouth Plaza rather than one thats been restored, this may be the opportunity youve been waiting for.
