Classic Car Overview

This 1956 Continental Mark II truly represents the highest echelon of American luxury when we were also at the pinnacle of road-owning style. When you can find one that is so clean, bright, sleek, and loaded - including air conditioning - you start to understand just how opulent a vintage car can be when it was first sold to a money-no-object crowd. We often call this a Lincoln Continental, but the reality is that the Continental sat well above Lincoln in the hierarchy. The Ford Motor Company planned this as a small batch car, just like they do today with the hand-crafted Ford GT. So its a true American exotic, but where we are looking for supercar power today, the moguls of 1950s America often wanted exclusive beauty. You see it in a design with exceptionally clean sheet metal that could rival the best of the pre-war French designs. This is balanced with mammoth chrome bumpers so well integrated into the design that you barely notice the exhaust under the tail lights. The color also fits into the standard of elegance. The red is a later application with a deeper tone. So you have a terrific mix of shine and sophistication. In fact, there is a little bit of a kismet understanding with this car. Its a rich red, rolling on whitewalls and meant only for blue-bloods. So its a patriotic way to represent one of the most opulently crafted coupes ever. It all has the right mix where you can both show and drive, and thats a theme you can feel throughout this car. The maroon and white interior carries the color theme of the exterior and whitewall tires inside, so it has a strikingly tasteful appearance. It looks particularly nice on the seats with their contrast piping. Plus, the carpeting, door panels, dash, and headliner all come together to give this a thoughtful appearance. The instrumentation feels more like piloting a private plane with the full set of crisp dials and aircraft-inspired levers for all your convenience controls. We like that the full presentation is clean but driver-ready. So youll treat the leather upholstery as an inviting seat rather than a museum piece. And this cruiser even lets you experience the best of 1950s luxury with features you often didnt see elsewhere, like a power seat and power windows. The air conditioning system even blows cold with modern R134a refrigerant. The 368 cubic-inch V8 was the largest displacement of the Y-block family, and this one wears its distinction with pride with unique features like the Continental star cast valve covers. Theres a good components market available for a cruiser like this, and this one already warms up to be a stout runner. And the Mark II was undoubtedly built to be enjoyed. It had nice features like an automatic transmission, power steering, and power brakes. Plus, this one has been upgraded to give you desirable features like better rear shocks and front disc brakes. Its hard to deny the beauty, distinction, or rarity of the Continental Mark II, especially when this example wants you to enjoy the vintage high life to the fullest. Call now!
