1956 International Harvester W400



The current owner of this tractor purchased it in 2009 as a true farm
implement to use around his "gentleman garlic farm" and expansive
property. By 2010 he decided it would be better used as a marketing tool
on the farm and around town, so he had it pulled apart and restored and
proceeded to use it more for show and shows than any kind of farm work.



As things have changed around the farm he's decided to move this beautiful tractor on to a new farm.



In terms of tractor production, the W400 is fairly rare. Many tractors
have production numbers in the 30-40 thousand range, some less, some,
like the Ford 8 series tractors, well up over 100,000 units produced.
Only 3858 of the W400 was produced between 55 and 56. For a tractor, it
has what some might consider upscale features like power steering and
hydraulic, rear disc brakes. It also includes a hydraulic draw bar and
live PTO, two front headlights and a single rear light, no brake lights.
Three gauges show whats happening with the amps, oil pressure and
engine temperature.



The 4.3L 4 cylinder puts out about 50 HP and puts all that power to the
ground through IH's own Torque Amplifier 10 speed transmission, with 2
reverse gears. The engine turns right over via a 12 volt electrical
starting system and although the Wix gaskets are said to be the culprit
for the oil drips, the engine burns no oil. What helps the big 4 put
that amplified torque to the ground are two Firestone 16.9-30 Field and
Road tires, the front steered through Samson 7.5-18 Harrow Track tires.
