1956 Ford Thunderbird

STK 3895 1956 Ford Thunderbird The Thunderbird was introduced in 1955 as a sporty competitor to the Corvette, but with a complete list of luxury options taken from full-sized Ford models. This particular 1956 Thunderbird varies somewhat from that original concept. It is more akin to a 427SC Cobra that a luxury roadster. This 56 has been carefully built to perform at a much higher level that a stock TBird. The body is finished in black with a removable hardtop (1955). Overall, the paint is in fair condition and is accented by bolt-on Halibrand style alloy wheels with BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. The restored red vinyl interior is in very good condition. The handsome instrument cluster holds a set of original gauges plus a SunPro tach. A SunPro auxiliary gauge package has also been carefully mounted under the dash. Carpeting and upholstery are outstanding and a Kenwood AM/FM/Cassette sound system has been installed. All that said, the heart of this Thunderbird is the drivetrain. The owner states that the original Y-Block has been replaced with a 460ci motor that sounds strong. It is equipped with cast iron heads, Edelbrock aluminum intake, mild performance cam, electric fuel pump and 4V Holley Brawler dual-feed carb. Cooling is managed by an aluminum radiator and cast iron manifolds exit to a free-flowing exhaust system w/cutouts. The engine is backed by Fords classic C6 3-speed automatic transmission. The differential package also appears to be significantly upgraded, but we do not have the specifics. The chassis has been tied in multiple locations and steering is power rack/pinion. Braking is managed by a disc/disc power brake package. Many of us remember first-generation T-birds, but certainly not one like this.
