Classic Car Overview

This hay hauler turned subdued go getter is about as close to a stock appearing truck as you can get without actually putting it in the category of stock. Looking much like the original a few changes were made over time and now we have a go-er that keeps all of its factory patina aged looks. A California born and built truck, staying there from 1956 until 2018, remaining nearly 100% rust free in all the common problem areas and sporting a title verified 2,808 original miles, things just dont get much better than this....oh wait they do. How about some updated disc brakes, a powerful V8 and an automatic transmission. Now were cooking with gas, er...I mean hauling with gas! Exterior All original steel for the fenders, running boards and rockers meld with original Ford metal doors and cab. A large steel front grill in surface rusted and patined cream is in nice contrast to the overall original Diamond Blue paint which is faded, scratched and patinaed but remains invasive rust free. A straight black steel front bumper is now on and simplifies the front end. The bulbous hood with a large Ford cloisonn badge in front rolls gently back to the curved wrap around front glass. Nice round fenders and a running board frame the cab which has a small visor protruding from the front of the roof. The bed is all original and shows with mahogany flooring that is separated by faded blue dividers. Easily removable wooden stake sides allow for hauling taller cargo and add an era-correct look to the overall design. Nicely rolled top steel for the bed sides, and a heavily aged F O R D badged tailgate is now closing up the back of the bed. The badging and chrome bumper, plus dont forget the patina finished aged chrome capped steel wheels all wrapped in 215/75R15s, and Im truly moved, and Im just standing here looking at this baby. Interior A swing of the metal blue painted utilitarian doors reveals their ribbed edged shiny handles and cranks along with gray tweed tufted and stitched tweed paneling. Rust free original floors and clean black carpet float a recovered black vinyl bench which stretches from door to door as well as a Lokar floor mounted shifter. The original 3-spoke steering wheels fronts the Diamond Blue full metal jacket dash with a small eyebrow over the black face semi circle of gauges which have white lettering. Plain and to the point as our eyes scan across the dash with a few chrome plugs, black knobbed pulls and the small round AM radio. More tweed graces the roof and makes up the clean tight headliner. Drivetrain Lifting the large bulbous hood reveals a 302ci Ford V8 resting in the bay where an inline 6 cylinder originally lived. A single 4-barrel carb feeds fossils and air through an Edelbrock intake and more Edelbrock equipment dresses up the mill with chrome valve covers and an air cleaner lid. Now a 3-speed C4 automatic transmission is on the back of the mill. Power moves to the rear wheels via a Dana 44 3.73 geared rear. Also noted is a fresh oil change, coolant flush and a recent tune up. Undercarriage Nary any sign of invasive rust, just clean metal painted in black and a light sprinkling of surface rust. All body undersides, rockers, cab corners and floor pans are seen as solid and 4 wheel power disc brakes adorn the 4 corners. Traditional leaf springs suspension is noted both front and rear but now sport Posies Super Slider springs both fore and aft. Headers feed spent gasses through glasspack style mufflers ending just in front of the rear axle. Drive-Ability She fired right up and off to the test track. I just love these old trucks and this one is as nice as they come. Great performance, smooth shifting, and bias free stopping with all functions operating as they should. Other than commenting it is just a great build, great factory fit and finish, a perfect patinaed look and a rust free California history. I say not much else because my jaw is on the floor, and my eyes wide open in amazement of this truck version of a ratted resto mod. The Diamond Blue go getter, shot from the starting line with a press of the gas pedal... Shes a handful boys and girls!
