Classic Car Overview
1956 Ford Customline Victoria 2 Door Hardtop For consignment, a 1956 Ford Customline Victoria 2 door hardtop in great condition and sporting an unusual customer ordered paint scheme. As one of the most common and desirable cars of the mid-50s, rivaling even Chevrolets tri-fives, having a Ford thats just a bit different from the rest makes this car worthy of consideration. Exterior Somewhere between Berkshire Green and Meadowmist Green we have this, Mountain Green and Colonial White, verifiably custom ordered by the person who originally ordered this car, and what a fine choice they made! Its every bit as authentically 50s as the stock colors and in striking two tone configuration. The headlight housing leans forward around the inset lights, then sends the body line back where it is quickly interrupted by an iconic body trim piece that starts on the fender and sweeps down in dramatic motion to the door where in then bounces like a ping pong ball straight back along the remaining and sizable length of the car but not without feature faux vents in the back. The elongated rear bumper holds a spare wheel in a chrome and body colored case and the bumper accommodates two exhaust tips with holes at either end. Both the front window and rear glass wrap around the car and as such, shrink the pillars and create an open greenhouse under a slightly sloping roofline. The metal work is fantastic, and the paint is very good. Imperfections include a crack in the paint just above a fender skirt, and another on the white portion of the car. The white on the top of the fenders is noticeably different from the rest of the car. Interior Light green and medium green alternate on the patterns included on the door panels, lines, textures, and trim that flow through to the back side walls. The light green split bench includes a tree cloth insert in a green and champagne colored pattern which reappears on the back bench that also has the same lined light green vinyl framing. Armrests and window controls are afforded to the back seat passenger along with ashtrays. We note a small stain on the back bench, but otherwise it is in great shape. A body colored steering wheel and dash flow from the painted door tops and create a cohesive visual feast. Simple gauges on a clean dash provide pertinent information to the driver and vent controls and an AM/FM radio are positioned in the center for both front seat occupants to access. A modern temperature gauge has been added just under the dash and a Ford V8 emblem is emblazoned across the dash on the guest side. Green looped carpet covers the floor and above it, a classic rubber one piece mat that rides over the transmission hump and wears the Ford crest. Similar mats are found on the floor in the back. The trunk is covered in a plaid mat and is in good condition. Drivetrain The red engine pops when you open the hood and we mean visually! Overall, the bay is in driver condition and this is where the 292ci V8 producing 176 horsepower resides. A 2-barrel carburetor feeds it dinosaur juice and a 3-speed manual transmission, rowed by three on the tree, backs the engine and sends power to the Ford 9 rear with 3.22 gears. This car is equipped with drum brakes at all four corners. Undercarriage Relatively clean underneath with ome surface rust, however there is no invasive rust to be noted. A bit of oil around the rear differential and U-joint, including some sling up on the underside pan. We find this sling up by the front U-joint as well. No oil on the oil pan and no grease build up on the knuckles. Suspension consists of coil springs in front and leaf springs in the back. Dual exhaust flows into stock style mufflers before finding their way to the bumper where they exit in epic fashion. Drive-Ability We took our place on the big bench seat and moved this big car using the slim and clean plastic steering wheel. The car tracks straight ahead beautifully and power steering certainly helps maneuver and around turns, theres the expected body roll. Lots of light enters the cabin and lots of air with the windows down. We found the reverse lights dont illuminate but everything else functioned as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
