This white and green dream is well sorted and ready to take on shows, cruise nights, and those morning coffee gatherings. Exterior The 1957 version is always the talk of the town, but the 1956 version offers up a simplified cleaner design all around and this Green Metallic example exemplifies that. The shiny mirror like grille with its big bumper below an egg crate silver grille and single headlights framed by fenders with the beginnings of a trim spear above, it just does not get any better. Nice use of chrome on the wheel well in front that fades into a rocker trim ending at the rear wheel well. Above there is the ever widening spear that takes over the rear quarter panel. This is resplendent in white, which covers the roof, trunk lid and tail of this snappy design car and covering the rest is a beautiful electric green. Some evidence of bodywork, bubbling on the lower panels, bubbling and cracking in the white paint, and some touched up scratches make up the list of imperfections. Rocket-like tail lights frame the trunk and still hide the gas fill cap to boot! A shout out to the clean windows and 15-inch Cragar chrome wheels which frame this throwback to the era of Bill Haley and the Comets. Interior Swinging the doors open we shake hands with dark green and white vinyl tuck and roll paneled door coverings that have kept their original cranks, handles and chrome trimmings. Stretching from door to door in front is a bench seat with a split back which is covered in marbled green vinyl tuck and roll with smooth white upper sections. The rear bench follows suit in design with the front, and even the package shelf is finished with material that surrounds a pair of speakers. A green steering wheel with polished horn ring fronts the dual fan style dash, all very clean and sporting original gauges and knobs, some of which are housed in the bowtie stamped metal panel. A triple gauge pod hangs below the dash and a Sun tachometer is strapped to the green steering column. An aftermarket JVC AM/FM/CD radio is centered in the dash and the combo of polished metal and metallic green paint is striking. A black 8-ball topped Hurst shifter rises from the center hump and reaches for the driver just perfectly. Black carpet below, a white headliner above, and a fitted rubber mat in the trunk all look clean. Drivetrain A top notch restoration under the hood, with all parts gleaming on this rebuilt 350ci V8 engine. Stuffed inside this black block is a Comp Cams Xtreme Energy 268 camshaft, a double roller timing chain, Lunati cam saver lifters, a high volume oil pump, and is finished off with 461 camelback heads. It is topped with a Weiand aluminum intake and a Holley 600cfm 4-barrel carb and backed up by a Saginaw 4-speed manual transmission. Way back is a 3.55 rear axle. An aluminum radiator is on to keep things cool and brakes are divided as discs up front and drums in the rear. Undercarriage Super clean underneath and structurally sound with black for the suspension and framing and body matching green for the floor pans. Headers lead to Holley FlowMonster mufflers which immediately distribute end pipes which terminate under the car, canted towards the ground. Independent coil spring suspension is up front along with leaf springs and traction bars in the back. Dry conditions prevail underneath and not even surface rust is present to mess with the view! Drive-Ability A quick starter, this 56 utilizes an exhaust system like two well tuned bullhorns to announce its beating heart. Splendid sounds are matched with a smooth running 350, good power, and straight tracking. Other than the heater blower and reverse lights not working, all functions called into action answer the call!
