Classic Car Overview

1956 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible was purchased by our family in October 1969 in Hawthorne, California. It's a West Coast car from the Oakland assembly plant and has a stock 265 V8 4bbl engine, which underwent a complete overhaul, body, paint and chrome all in 1977. The Rochester carburetor was rebuilt in August 2023, and the fuel system was cleaned and checked in February 2023 as well. The Powerglide automatic transmission was rebuilt in 1981. The convertible top and upholstery were replaced in April 1979, and the car was repainted in November 1981. There have been no extra upgrades done to the car. The car has been always garaged, is rust-free, runs, drives, stops, and still attracts attention.

If you see the ad it is still for sale.

***Updated on 5/30/25***

We have had people ask about the top:
To put the top up and down right now, you have to do it by hand. The reason for that is back when the restoration was done there weren't as many sources for the motor and cylinders as there are today.
I have sourced the parts necessary to make the top fully automatic again and will install them soon. This will make it so the driver can put the top up and down by the switch.
I hope this clears up some questions.

**Second:**
This car is not a manual convertible conversion car as some people have speculated. This car was manufactured in the Oakland assembly plant as a Convertible.
