From around 1956 until the mid 1980s, Dodge, Plymouth and even Chrysler squads were the most ubiquitous police cars in North America. In fact, the biggest department, the NYPD, used Plymouth and Dodge squads almost exclusively until the rear-drive M body car was finally axed in 1989.

The no-frills Savoy two-door sedan was home to another engine of considerable repute, the infamous 413 Max Wedge, a Super Stock monster block Chrysler introduced in the spring of 1962.

Classic Car Overview

Having recently acquired my bucket list car after last year's heart attack, I am ready to let my 1955 go. No low ball offers or scams. If you appreciate this car, you know what it's worth.

1955 Pontiac Custom Star Chief Custom Catalina two door hardtop. Top-Of-The-Line. The longer the name with Pontiac, the greater the pedigree. Star Chief, Custom, and Catalina - the two door hardtop. Pontiac's version of the Tri-5 Bel Air....little known and totally outclassed the Chevrolet. The car was built in Kansas City, Found it's way to FL, then to Maryland where I got it in 2015. Already "restored" in terms of body, chrome, paint, and interior, but sadly deficient mechanically. It took two years and more than $40,000. Now it's  turn key cruiser.

It's easier to say what this car does NOT have in terms of options and accessories. This car is loaded. It has every option and accessory EXCEPT the continental kit, leather padded dash, power seats, power door locks, power windows, power antenna, and the tissue dispenser.

Key features:

First year GM V8 for passenger cars...289ci...with the ultra-rare 4 barrel Rochester carburetor...not available until March of 1955. Engine was allegedly rebuilt, but I rebuilt it again and bored it .30 over so it is now a 318ci 1956 Spec engine with about 227HP. Power steering, power brakes, turbo-hydramatic transmission, also allegedly rebuilt which I had rebuilt again, and dealer installed AIR CONDITIONING...second year availability. AC is so cold, I have to blend it with a little dash vent, even in the summer.

Engine was rebuilt at 94,000 miles (107,000 now). Transmission tuned at 103,000; rebuilt same time as engine. AC is very cold. Power brakes have a large secondary spring under the pedal which makes them stiff. Paint is showing its age...numerous splits and cracks, but shows very well. Right door lock does not fit key (had all new cylinders). New battery. Magnetic and screw on dash accessories not included. Trunk had red shag carpet when I got it. Now has Herringbone vinyl Twill. Paint is the very popular and correct Firegold on Mist White, and Copper and Ivory leather interior. Longest trip has been 500 miles in a day....many 200 mile trips. I'd drive it across the country if I had a reason to. Car averages 15mpg on 89 unleaded with Marvell's Mystery Oil.

Car has a NADA value of $32,000 in average; NADA excellent at $54,000. This car is NOT average. I have appraisal papers for $69,900. Asking price is $37,000 or best reasonable offer.

Concessions to modern driving: electric fuel pump, electronic ignition, and digitally converted AM/FM radio in original case.

We have a clear title in hand. Payment by cashiers/bank check; no PayPal. Check must clear before title and car are released. Buyer responsible for transport. Third party inspection of car welcomed.
