Classic Car Overview

One of the rarest Morgan models, the 'transition' cars of which very few were built, the post 1954 'waterfall' grille yet retaining the two spares as seen on 1950-1953 Morgan flat rads.   While the actual number built is a figure we don't have (but are researching, and at the moment the Morgan factory historian is on furlough and we couldn't contact him) this submodel was built between the Fall of 1954 and the Spring of 1955...hence, just a handfull made.

Of course, ALL Morgans are rare with production figures between 85 and near 600 a year during the 50s and 60s....compare that to 10,000 MG TCs built in four years, 29,000 MG TDs in three years, and 9,600 MG TFs built in a year and a half.

This car:  same owner for the past 47 years, 36,000 documented original miles, excellent chassis, wood framing (as in the doors don't sag), excellent sheet metal, chrome, dash, gauges, wiring, electricals, all new brakes (new master cylinder, wheel cylinders, flex lines, brake shoes), steering and gearbox that feel 'as new' (further confirming the super low mileage), excellent convertible top, has side curtains, LHD, and those elegant twin spare wheels.   

We are told the car has been repainted once, in white, in 1979.  And now repainted for the second time in MG Damask with black fenders.  Done in base coat/clear coat, hand wet sanded and buffed to a show finish.

See, altering the color doesn't really seem like a travesty.   While mass produced cars such as MGs or Jaguars, or Triumphs had specific colors each year of manufacture, Morgans were a bit different.  Sure, a few 'factory' colors but, in fact, the factory offered a new Morgan in ANY color a buyer wished.  And as they often tell the story, once matched a car to a woman's favorite nail polish color.

Another item to consider.....while MGs (as an example) had individual parts painted, fenders top and bottom, doors, bonnet, firewall, etc.....Morgans were assembled and then painted.  Right over the wing beading.  And the firewalls and under fenders done in black.   Hence, easy to completely change the color of a Morgan.   Which we just did.

On the topic of Morgan vs MG (the sequel to 'Ford vs Ferrari?')....the TR2 puts out 90hp and tons of torque compared to an MG TD of 54.4hp or a TF1500 with 63hp.  And the Morgan is lighter.  Also, the rugged Moss gearbox was used in Jaguars....which by 1961 had 265hp.   While Salisbury back axles are equally rugged.   Making for a fairly bullet proof drive train.

From sitting, the valves were a bit stuck, hence we just removed the head, fitted new valves and guides, seats were almost like new, reassembled, runs perfectly, 75-80 psi oil pressure, no smoke, probably no different from new.

A very rare, unusual Morgan with super low mileages, excellent condition, ready for a wonderful classic car driving season
