Classic Car Overview

I am the second owner after the original restoration of this 1955 Ford Thunderbird. I was going to finish the finalization of the restoration. As life would have it, this did not happen. This beautiful 1955 Ford Thunderbird must go to a person who knows the “coolness” of the 1955 Ford Thunderbird! It must go to a person who will take the time to finish the restoration. Sure, you could by this car and drive it today. Its looks good. It turns heads. However, I want this car to go to the person who will make it shine with glory! 

Here is the history on this 1955 Ford Thunderbird: 

The person who restored this 1955 Ford Thunderbird purchased the car as a project car from a person in the Willow Grove/Abington area of PA around 1985. The body was removed from the frame. The rear side box sections were cut out and replaced with new heavier steel. The frame was then completely wire wheeled to remove any loose rust. It was then prepped with an oxide converter once cleaned, it was then painted with Por15 a cyanocrylic sealant paint. This was used in the frame and floor pan assembly. The rear section of the frame is painted with Rustoleum paint.

The next project was the body panel replacement. The drivers side pan section was replaced as well as the under panels, dog legs behind the door on drivers side, the rear of front fender panel, the drivers side bottom of quarter panel. The opposite side was repaired with sections of sheet metal and the pan in the trunk was fiber glassed to seal rust and pin holes. Once panels were replaced the body was cleaned and partially sand blasted. The body was then gone over with a seam sealer to insure the floor pan assembly and trunk assembly were sealed to the outside world. 

The motor was completely disassembled and taken to machine shop. Block was dipped, cleaned and cylinders were ridge reamed and honed. Heads were cleaned, valves reseated seals replaced and valve springs tested and several replaced. All remaining engine parts were the disassembled, cleaned, painted, new seal and gasket kits for the various parts like the powering steering pump, generator, starter, new water pump etc. The entire engine was disassembled, cleaned, replaced where necessary, everything was completely disassembled and eventually reassembled after cleaning and painting where necessary. 

Interior has been restored. The front seat has new foam and the seat cover is installed with stainless steel wire instead of the regular steel hog rings. This much better in securing and assembling the seat covers to the frame. The steering wheel is after market. The original manufacture plate on the car shows the car color is red. 

Message from the current owner: This car does need some additional work. Yes, it is 100% drivable as it is now. Heck, I drive it all the time in the good weather! And it flies! The doors still need to be lined up with the body. The frame is in fantastic shape along with the floor pans and the trunk. The trunk has a remote pull latch to open. The 1955 Ford Thunderbird starts and runs great. The engine was rebuilt masterfully. As with any car over 50 years old, there is the tiniest drip of oil after months of sitting. The convertible is a manual aftermarket rag top. This 1955 Ford Thunderbird does turns heads. It’s a 50/50 car! (Looks fantastic at 50 feet away or at 50 MPH! LOL!)
