1955 Ford Thunderbird
From around 1956 until the mid 1980s, Dodge, Plymouth and even Chrysler squads were the most ubiquitous police cars in North America. In fact, the biggest department, the NYPD, used Plymouth and Dodge squads almost exclusively until the rear-drive M body car was finally axed in 1989.
The no-frills Savoy two-door sedan was home to another engine of considerable repute, the infamous 413 Max Wedge, a Super Stock monster block Chrysler introduced in the spring of 1962.
Classic Car Overview
This is a 1955 Ford Thunderbird Hardtop Convertible with a 292ci Manual V8. 1955 is the 1st Model year for the T-Bird. I am the 3rd owner, it has been garaged and maintained since I have owned it. It had a complete restoration in 2007.
This car drives well and runs smooth. Since owning it I have replaced the fuel tank, brake cylinder, and given it regular oil changes.
Here are a few things that need work:
-During restoration - they attempted to convert the 6V system to a 12V system. I returned a 6V battery, which is weaker, and did most of the minor rewire work, but it should be looked at by someone smarter than me - Either complete the 12V conversion or check the wiring. The major issues from this have been resolved.
-The paint on the fuel cap cover is chipped (see picture).
-The rubber weatherstripping inside the Hard Top needs to be replaced, its is old and can leave a rubbery residue on the white paint (see picture around the back of the seat)
-The bumper that keeps the driver door open is broken... door is still fully functional
All in all - this is an awesome looking - solid running car that has been cared for since it was first bought. I don't have the time to give it the attention it deserves.... - not looking for trades.
