The 1955 Fairlane wasnt just a car; it became an emblem of the eras optimism and love for automotive style. Its design and engineering influenced subsequent Ford models and left a lasting impression on American car culture.

Exterior
Stunning lines on this big 1955 with vented brows over the headlights, a wide grille, and beautifully sculpted chrome front bumper. A nosed front and louvered hood almost upstage the two stage Raven Black and Snowshoe white paint on this car but its the picnic basket wide band of chrome serving as the B-pillar and crossing the roof that actually accomplishes this. Its not only one of the most remarkable trim pieces in automotive history, but sends trim to the back, paralleling the mid panel piece and connecting the cabin trim. The debadged rear features a chrome bumper with guards and dual exhaust emerging from underneath it while 15-inch American Racing Torque Thrust wheels give the car a sportier profile. Imperfections include various chips, cracks, inclusions, scratches, bubbles, stains, and a ding.

Interior
The black and white combo transfers to the interior where the door panels contain both colors stacked neatly and showing a touch of age. White vinyl seats contain black inserts in tuck and roll pattern and configured as a split bench up front and full bench in the back where the center top dips and is adorned with trim piece and Ford crest over a tuck away armrest and all seats are in great shape. A black steering wheel with metal horn ring leads to a black topped dash where the domed speedometer resides. Circular features in the center of the white dash include a clock, circular AM radio, and the vent controls along with an AM/FM/CD radio in and triple gauge pod under the dash. Black loop carpet covers the floor all under a white headliner also in fine condition and featuring that picnic basket trim on the inside! The trunk is clean and lined with a plaid mat that is cut to fit, a spare tire and jack.

Drivetrain
A clean red blocked and rebuilt 292ci V8 resides under the louvered hood and is fueled by a 4-barrel carburetor ahead of a Ford-O-Matic 2-speed automatic transmission, also rebuilt. It sends power to the legendary Ford 9 in the back. The car is equipped with power steering and power brakes.

Undercarriage
Generally clean underneath with some typical metal oxidation and some residual oil about. Dual exhaust flows through Smithy mufflers on their way to chrome tipped escape. Power drum brakes are found front and back. Suspension consists of coil springs ahead and leaf springs behind.

Drive-Ability
The comfortable cabin provides a nice perch from which to pilot this classic Ford, and we set the recently rebuilt 292 into action around the test loop where it provides good power as the curved glass front and rear provide limitless visibility. We note the AM radio, heater blower, and reverse lights not working. In addition, the car pulls left when braking. All other features and functional items work as they should and just like that, our time in the picnic basket is over. Given the mods and great condition of the car, this is one we feel you could actually drive regularly and enjoy! Its got a great sounding exhaust, clean interior and well sorted drivetrain. And of course, you cant ignore those iconic tail lights. This is a great cruiser!
