1955 Dodge Coronet 2 Door Sedan

Not unlike a true gentleman from the mid 50s with a feathered silk banded hat, tasteful suit and thin necktie and the obligatory cigarette, this car bleeds good taste. The design is timeless with some aero mixed in, chrome aplenty, and just a wonderful line along with the 85,790 non verifiable miles. It looks like its floating down the superhighway while its standing still. The correct color combo, and use of nice materials for the interior, grab your gal and get dressed up and lets go for a ride!

Exterior
Super straight panels that are showing some Bondo repairs and underlying bubbles are still holding their integrity and are bathed in Cameo Red for the cars lowers, and with the addition of a chrome edged small rear quarter swoop spear, hood and trunk dolled up in Jewel Black. Then we go to the roof which has a rounded over aero look and is painted in Sapphire White. A larger than life dual level grille in big chrome which is showing some slight dimpling and puckering adorns the front and encircles the signal lights as well as the headlights. More shiny edging for the hood which frames the Sapphire Black on the hood and races to the back of the car to intersect with the small swoop spear highlighting the rear quarter. Rounded over rear glass takes the handoff from the white roof and quickly turns to black and ends well with angled rear panels which house stacked Dixie cup shaped chrome bezel blue dot tail lights, which have a big rear bumper to frame the lowers. Dual antennae and chromed dual exhaust as well as some red fender skirting make me a sucker for this car. This beauty rolls on wide whites that have red wheels and chromed badged caps. Dorothy, we are NOT in Kansas anymore..

Interior
La dey dadde dee, la de dadde dah... and the beat goes on with a snappy black and white interior showing door panels well preserved with white vinyl surrounds and black central panels. The doors are a nice continuation of the wrap-around glass and dash which shows in gray painted steel, with a large white canditral and ribbed chrome panels to spice things up. A horizontal lineup of round gauges flank a central bump in dash top round speedo and the large bakelite black steering wheel. More chromed inserts for the dash bottom with various knobs and pulls and the radio. On black carpeting float super clean split front and solid rear tuck and roll white vinyl benches. Above is a nearly perfect padded panel headliner in white. Step inside my dear...

Drivetrain
Opening the hood and Im looking at a black framed piece of automotive art in the form of a silver original and fully rebuilt 270ci Red Ram Poly V8, also known as the baby Hemi. It is fed by a single 2-barrel carburetor and has a recently rebuilt 2-speed Powerflite automatic. Power goes to the rear where a 3.54 gear differential picks it up and spins the rear wheels. Other recent redux of mechanicals done by our mechanic consignor are an alternator, voltage regulator, points, distributor, coil, radiator, brakes and an upgrade to a 12 volt system.

Undercarriage
Underneath is as a cager would say nuthin but net or in other words a swish with straight rust free steel. Independent front and leaf sprung rear suspension, dual exhaust and 4 wheel drum brakes. As nice as the topside.

Drive-Ability
Getting behind the wheel of such a car gives me a sense of giddy, as she fires right up and off to the test track where it performs flawlessly. Being a mechanic has its advantages and this car has benefitted from it. All working swimmingly. Save for a few dimples on all chrome, this car is a fabulous example of mid 50s motoring. Some power, comfort and all the right options make it an A + in this writers book, and there are a lot of examples to choose from in our Hallowed Halls but I picked this one!
