1955 Dodge Coronet 4 Door Sedan For consignment, a 1955 Dodge Coronet 4 door sedan showing 21,244 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This is a one family car, passed down through generations with one generation being active in the AACA and often showing this original beauty in and around Pennsylvania. Exterior Striking Chiffon Green paint has this one standing out instantly, but the wide hood trim and robust split grille steal the show! Theres nothing quite like it and the bulge on the hood is lined with trim that streaks back to surround the cabin, matched in direction by the side spear that pierces the front door after traveling over the fender. Lets stay up front where a thick chrome bumper underscores the distinctive nose and could likely move cattle out of the way, while in back, the jet age scores big with rounded, stacked lights and its own, massive bumper. We love how the drip rail tracks down to the back of the rear door, the jamb of which slants towards the front to accommodate the wheel opening for the 15-inch wheels, here wrapped in appropriate white walls. Imperfections are minimal with some cracking in the paint in a few areas. Interior Each door is a virtual layer cake with black painted window frame, white vinyl panel, plaid green cloth, white again, then black. Handsome, stylish, and clean, each of the four doors is in very nice shape. This plaid green cloth in a sort of loose houndstooth design, covers the front and rear bench, showing some age throughout with some discoloration in both the cloth and surrounding white vinyl, but otherwise intact. The back of the front bench features grab handles and an ashtray for rear occupants, based in a band of plaid green. A black and gray steering wheel fronts an ivory faced dash neatly adorned with a symmetrical row of gauges and knobs around a central speedometer with levers on each side of the column, and like the outside, the inside is unique. An AM radio is present and even the handle of the glove box is different. Green loop carpet covers the floor, our headliner shows some age, and the trunk houses a spare and wears a carpet floor covering Drivetrain Driver quality and original conditions are found in the bay where a 270ci Red Ram V8 resides, fueled by a 2-barrel carburetor and rated at 175 horsepower. Its backed by a PowerFlite 2-speed automatic transmission that routes power to the rear axle with 3.54 gears. Undercarriage Relatively clean underneath where we find some minimal surface rust, residual oil in various spots including the rear differential, and some previous filler repairs to the inner rocker panels. The single exhaust flows through a stock style muffler, exiting via a steel pipe out back. Drum brakes are found on all four wheels with some seepage notices on a rear unit. Suspension consists of coil springs up front and leaf springs in the rear. Drive-Ability This fanciful 50s ride provides a comfortable and airy interior and a shifter that is uniquely situated on the dash. The 270 comes to life after a few pumps of the gas and we roll this light green Dodge onto the test loop. In an amazing testament to its upkeep by a single family, the car runs well, tracks straight, and all functions provided to the driver are working as intended.
