Classic Car Overview
1955 Chevrolet Bel Air 2 Door Sedan For consignment, a 1955 Bel Air 2 door sedan with 3,023 miles since a rebuild and there are a lot of new parts on board that are documented in a binder that will accompany the car. Classic Auto Mall is a go to resource for nice Tri-fives and were proud to welcome this stunner to our temporary stable. It checks all the right boxes! Exterior The car was born with Regal Turquoise and India Ivory and nearly 70 years later it wears the original colors in classic Bel Air two tone configuration. The chrome bumpers, grille and headlight rings and entirety of the brightwork is impeccable. The bird hood emblem leans forward with gleaming intent and the 15-inch color matched steel wheels wear shiny hubcaps and slightly staggered size tires with an early 2022 date code. In profile, the cars stance has a slight rake and curved glass at both ends meet with the posted and pillared side windows, (our consignor states that all glass is new), to create a vast greenhouse. Panel gaps are well minded and we could not find any exterior flaws. Interior The design of the door cards, two tone gray and ivory, mirror the sharp angles of the exterior trim and have both smooth and textured surfaces along with window cranks for the main window and the vent window. The ivory vinyl of the seats meet midway down the back with gray cloth which continues over the length of the split bench, and the back bench continues the pattern of gray and ivory. A hot rod, gray padded steering wheel with chrome center takes stage while the glossy dash with bowtie embossed detail in a turquoise dash, is in showroom condition. The shell shaped dash surround, behind the column mounted tachometer, is an updated version housing not just a speedometer, but a number of AutoMeter gauges, twinned on the passenger side with the Bel Air emblem and clock in an amazingly bold design feature. The thin gray floor covering, hemmed in vinyl piping, is clean and houses the Hurst shifter on the floor. The gray headliner is high and tight and the trunk has a fitted rubber mat and spare tire, all in good shape. Drivetrain A show quality engine bay greets us with the hood up, housing a 383ci stroker V8 with aluminum heads and a 4-barrel carburetor. Behind it, a rebuilt Muncie 4-speed manual transmission sends power to the new rear differential with 3.73 gears. Power brakes are onboard as front discs and rear drums while ceramic coated headers glean in a bay where most components are polished or chromed. We see our share of greasy engines, but this one takes your breath away. Undercarriage A clean underside with minimal surface rust and only a drop of oil on the flywheel cover to buck its perfection. Our consignor states that all suspension parts have been rebuilt or replaced and 2 drop spindles have been added, along with a new gas tank and lines. The dual exhaust meets Turbo mufflers before dumping abruptly before the gas tank under the car. Coil springs live up front and leaf springs with traction bars are found in the back. Drive-Ability A short lap just to confirm a running car and run it did! Its healthy exhaust note and lowered profile makes for an exciting first impression and the striking color combo is about an eye catching design thats ever been applied to sheet metal. Good power, straight tracking, visibility for days, and all functions worked as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. If you dont have a Tri-Five in your collection, consider this fine 55. If you have a 56 and 57, heres one to round out your stable. If you have no hobby cars and always loved the 55 Chevy, well, swipe right as they say, because we think weve found your match! Inside and out, a stunning car with a 383 stroker and a fun stick on the floor. Lots of time and money went into creating this superstar and its looking for a new agent!
