Classic Car Overview

Super solid Shoebox Chevy. One repaint several years ago. Nice interior, very clean undercarriage. Great-running 235 cubic inch Blue Flame inline-6 with PowerGlide. Just a handsome Chevy ready to enjoy or upgrade!

Make no mistake, the Tri-Five Chevys are still some of the most popular hobby cars in the world. That means they can be expensive. But sometimes you find a car that s at just the right intersection of clean, usable, and attractive. This 1955 Chevrolet 210 2-door sedan is just such a car. Most Chevy guys will call it a 2-door post and that s an apt description, but whatever you want to call it, it s a brilliant design. This particular car spent the entirety of its life down south, away from snow and salt, so the bodywork is excellent. Super straight panels, no hacky patchwork, no rotten floors. It s been dressed in Bel Air trim, so it looks awesome, but it s actually a 210 although the difference is largely academic. It was repainted a few years ago in something close to the original colors (the blue might be a bit more metallic than they had in 1955), and retains its classic 50s vibe. The doors close easily, the gaps are good, and you can tell this is a car that has always been loved. Someone also spent a good deal of cash on the brightwork, with nice chrome and polished stainless giving the car a very well-dressed look.

The interior is really nice, featuring that funky fabric that Chevy was using in the mid-50s that looks so awesome today. It might be original, but it might just be too nice to be 70 years old, hard to say. Someone did a great job if they replaced it. There are a few signs of age and use, but nothing notable and certainly no splits or tears in the upholstery. The dash was painted to match the bodywork and retains all its original instrumentation and switchgear, so it has an authentic 1955 feel from behind the wheel. Detailing is excellent, from the shiny band of trim that stretches across the dash (the tiny Chevy bowtie emblems are just too cool!) to the two-tone door panels, and it s easy to get comfortable inside this handsome Chevy. All the gauges and warning lights work, the heater fan blows strong, but as is typical, the radio and clock are offline. There s room for adults in back, making this a practical hobby car that s ready for almost anything. You also get a massive trunk that carries a correct rubber mat and jack assembly.

The small-block V8 gets all the glory, but that seriously underestimates the turbine-smooth 235 cubic inch Blue Flame inline-6 that you get in this car. It s a serious over-achiever with plenty of power on tap to make the Chevy feel lively in traffic and it cruises at modern highway speeds without much drama. It starts easily thanks to some recent service work, idles smoothly, and pulls eagerly without ever sounding strained. It s dressed up a bit with a chrome valve cover, but otherwise remains stock throughout. A few notable upgrades help with the motoring experience, including power front disc brakes with a dual-reservoir master cylinder and electric windshield wipers, but that s about it for alterations. The 2-speed PowerGlide automatic transmission is legendary for its durability, and the nice thing about 6-cylinder cars is that you know they haven t been abused, raced, or modified by backyard mechanics with less-than-sensational skills. This one drives great, with smooth road manners and light control efforts, and the six is even pretty good on gas, which might be a concern these days. You ll note the floors are super clean and all the critical areas like the spare tire well are solid, meaning this car has never seen harsh weather. There s a newer gas tank hanging out back and the single exhaust system gives the smooth six a pleasing growl that s never intrusive. 15-inch Rally wheels were painted to match the bodywork and carry fresh 205/75/15 whitewall radials.

Documentation includes an original owner s manual and receipts from the past few decades.

Don t skip over this car just because it has a six, because it s a joy to drive. Or, if you re feeling ambitious, this could be a super solid foundation for an incredible build with the powerplant of your choice, although that might be a shame given how nice this car really is. Either way, you ll enjoy owning this handsome 1955 Chevy 2-door! Call today!

NOTE: This car is titled as a 1955 Chevrolet and has a re-issued state of Ohio VIN tag.
