From around 1956 until the mid 1980s, Dodge, Plymouth and even Chrysler squads were the most ubiquitous police cars in North America. In fact, the biggest department, the NYPD, used Plymouth and Dodge squads almost exclusively until the rear-drive M body car was finally axed in 1989.
The no-frills Savoy two-door sedan was home to another engine of considerable repute, the infamous 413 Max Wedge, a Super Stock monster block Chrysler introduced in the spring of 1962.
Classic Car Overview
EXTERIOR: The car was stripped to a bare shell in 2005. At that time,
floor braces, rocker panels and a partial rear quarter panel were
professionally replaced. The car was then custom painted inside and out. Because the car is a 150, there are no natural
lines to strike for a two-tone paint job.
The painter used a spotlight technique to cast a shadow from top down to
establish the paint line. The top side
is black, the bottom is Cosmic Grey Metallic.
The pseudo flame was done using House of Kolor Tangelo. The painter hand applied accent barbs, then
airbrushed it with drop shadows to add dimension to the car. The body is straight, door jambs are
meticulously painted and weather stripping is intact. The one-piece chrome bumpers are in great
condition. The trunk is clean and
solid. All trim and emblems were either restored
or replaced with new. The glass is
original. The car is rust free.
INTERIOR: The interior features black tuck and roll bench seats, and black loop carpet. The dash is custom painted two-tone to match the car. Billet pedals are by Lokar. The gauges are factory, with add-on Autometer Tach and gauge pod. The radio is by custom auto sounds. The headliner is new. The seats are comfortable and sturdy.
ENGINE: The engine was also built in 2005. It’s a 400 SBC bored to 406. Features Dart Pro-1 aluminum heads, aluminum intake, Barry Grant Speed Demon 750 carb, Comp Cams 292H cam, Pete Jackson gear drive and a Milodon 7 qt. oil pan. The ignition is all MSD: Billet distributor, coil, wires and 6-AL box. The aluminum radiator and electric fan keeps the coolant temperature in check.
DRIVE TRAIN: Behind the 400 SBC is a 4-speed Muncie with Hurst shifter. It’s tied to a GM 12-bolt rear end with a heavy-duty drive shaft. The rear features Strange axles, traction bars and 3.73 gears. Power brakes, with front disk conversion. Rims are Weld Draglite, tires are BFG.
