As many enthusiasts will know, Cadillac released new model generations every few years from the late-1930s to mid-1970s. Such was the pace of updates, the Series Sixty luxury sedan, a model first introduced in 1938, entered its fifth generation in 1954. New bodywork, more power, and improved power steering were just a few of the many updates over its predecessor. As ever, luxury was of tantamount importance, especially considering the Series Sixty with its 133-inch wheelbase neatly filled the gap between the "entry level" Series 62 (129-inches) and eight-passenger Seventy-Five limousine (149.8-inches).
The magnificent 1955 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special Sedan featured here is finished in striking gloss Black with a gorgeous Light/Dark Grey broadcloth interior. While any Sixty Special is a remarkable vehicle, this particular 1955 Cadillac is especially notable for its use in the four-time Academy Award-winning film, "Driving Miss Daisy". Released in 1989 and starring Jessica Tandy (as Daisy Werthan) and Morgan Freeman (as her chauffeur, Hoke Colburn), the film depicts twenty-five years of Miss Daisy's life - often from within one of the various automobiles depicted onscreen. Of those, which included a 1946 Chrysler Windsor and a 1948 Hudson Commodore, a 1955 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special - the exact car we are showcasing here - is perhaps the best remembered.
While the narrative largely focuses on the relationship between Miss Daisy and Hoke, the cars prove plenty capable of their roles as co-stars, symbolizing social change and personal connection. As seen onscreen, this impressive Series Sixty comes factory-equipped with air-conditioning which Miss Daisy pointedly refuses to use among other standard and optional features such as power steering, power brakes, and power windows. Both a fabulous example of mid-century Cadillac craftsmanship and Hollywood history, this exceptional 1955 Series Sixty will be the perfect addition to any serious collection. We are proud to offer this piece of American film history to the most sophisticated collector, investor, or enthusiast who understands and appreciates the investment potential of this great, iconic motorcar!
