This 1955 Cadillac Eldorado Sport Convertible is a beautifully restored 50s cruiser with fantastic, driver-friendly options! When Cadillac introduced the Eldorado Convertible in 1953, it was a mid-year addition to Cadillacs lineup and the extremely luxurious convertible was produced in limited quantities. The first-year Eldorado was also a member of General Motors Motorama convertible trifecta that also included the Buick Skylark and Oldsmobile Fiesta. By the time 1955 rolled around, the Eldorado begun gathering some traction among Cadillacs dedicated customer base and was the ultimate status symbol among high society. The 55 Eldorado received a major facelift, or rather tail lift, with regards to the rear end treatment. Gone were the traditional fishtail fins instead replaced with a brand new pair of sweeping, pointed tail fins reminiscent of an airplane or space ship. The 1955 Cadillacs also sported several refinements from the previous year including a redesigned grille and the parking lights were relocated from the grille in 1954 to below the headlights in 55. The 1955 Eldorados also featured a wider chrome beltline molding down the side that helped the special Cadillac further differentiate itself from the other models. The 55 Eldorado interiors were even more luxurious than other Cadillac models and the design was specific to the Eldorado only. Being that the Eldorado sat atop Cadillacs hierarchy in 1955, the standard equipment and options were outstanding and included items such as power brakes, power seat, power windows, sabre spoke wheels, whitewall tires, and, of course, a dual quad 270 horsepower Power Package engine. In total, Cadillac produced just over 12,000 convertibles in 1955, of which just under 4,000 were Eldorado Sport Convertibles which makes this particular car quite a rare piece of automobile history. Powering this 55 Cadillac is a Numbers Matching 331 Cubic Inch V8 engine fed by dual 4 barrel carburetors tucked under the iconic Batwing air cleaner that together were said to have produced 270 horsepower when new. The 331 V8 is backed by a Hydra-Matic Automatic Transmission that makes this Eldo Convertible an easy car for anybody to drive. Exhaust exits the 331 Cadillac powerplant via a through-bumper dual exhaust setup that generates a nice throaty sound out the rear. The front and rear bench seats have been correctly reupholstered in beautiful black leather. The front black leather bench seat is also equipped with a 6-way adjustable power seat which is also a neat option. All 4 power windows work great and they all go up and down with the simple flick of a switch. The padded dash, upholstered door panels, carpeting and steering wheel are all in wonderful condition and appear to be in their stock configuration. The instrument cluster is equipped with a 120 MPH speedometer, temperature gauge, and fuel gauge. The dash is completed with a retro-style AM/FM entertainment system and clock.
