Windy City Warriors

From around 1956 until the mid 1980s, Dodge, Plymouth and even Chrysler squads were the most ubiquitous police cars in North America. In fact, the biggest department, the NYPD, used Plymouth and Dodge squads almost exclusively until the rear-drive M body car was finally axed in 1989.

Classic Car Overview

The 50s was a great time to be a car buyer. The post-war boom had led to new ways to individualize your car. No longer just content to have the latest family coupe, Ford offered new ideas, and none of them were more distinctive than the top-of-the-line 1954 Crestline with big open Skyliner roof. And while youll love the classics looks, this restored example also comes with more pep, thanks to upgraded V8 power and an overdrive transmission. This was the debut year for the Plexiglas Skyliner roof. Ford was ushering in the big ideals of the 1950s, and this really kicked it off nicely. These were an expensive option (rivaling convertibles) and so the production figures are quite low. Thats why they are in demand today. But you want this for more than just the cool roof. Fords revised grille for 54 was so wide that it reached around the corners just like the bright bumper below it. The side trim is complete on everything from the line that runs along the entire straight body, to the crest at the base of the hardtop roof. It ends in a chrome rear light surrounds that hints at the tailfin era that was just around the corner (especially the Thunderbird coming the next year). The Killarney Green and Sandstone White is the factory correct two-tone, and it gives this coupe a great vintage style. But theres something more here. The deleted badging (front and rear,) bright smoothie wheels, and LED third brake light suggest there has also been an investment in upgrades, but more on that in a moment. Inside the turquoise/green and white two-tone do a great job of coordinating with the exterior, and the pillow top seats have that great 50s look. And even more of that nostalgic feeling comes when you slip behind the wheel. This is where you can tell that the Thunderbird was on its way. The engine-turned panel and nifty acrylic panel speedometer are hallmarks of that iconic personal coupe. So that level of luxury is what Ford was delivering in the Crestline even before the T-bird! And while this has a great vintage atmosphere, right down to the AM radio on display, you also see more evidence that this was upgraded for driving. You have a banjo-style sports steering wheel mounted on a tilt column, auxiliary gauge trio, and cool/classic horizontal tach. Under the hood is proper V8 power, and the full polished upgrade helps signal that its upgraded power, too. The 347 cubic-inch V8 is far fresher and larger than anything you got from the factory in 54. It inhales deeply with an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor before exhaling with a sweet sound out of the dual exhaust. And this clean engine bay has all the right supporting components, like a large aluminum radiator and dual electric fans. The clean undercarriage photos show that they invested in the suspension. Plus, you have great driving features like power steering and power brakes w/discs up front. And the Hughes Performance four-speed AOD transmission means you have a stout unit that also has overdrive comfort. Complete with build receipts and a dyno sheet, this is the rare coupe that knows how to let the sunshine in. So its time to let it into your life. Call today!!!
