1954 Dodge C1 Pickup

For consignment, a 1954 Dodge C1 pickup with a title verified 98,889 actual miles. Production numbers dont exist for the C1, but one thing is for sure; there arent many around since they were used as work trucks and put away wet. This is the first C1 to grace the halls of Classic Auto Mall.

Exterior
A bit more streamlined than the B-series, the fenders of this truck hug closer to the center and in front, the rounded tops are dictated by the single headlights ahead. The robust double bars of the grille are now integrated inside the intake and are color matched to the truck, here in two stage Pontchartrain Green, reserved for the cab and likely named for a Louisiana estuary. In back, its black that covers the bed and rear fenders along with both bumper and side steps. 16-inch gray steel wheels carry LT rated tires and white dog dish hubcaps with red lettering. The fantastic period job rated call out in script is on each front fender and Dodge is stamped into the steel tailgate that closes the bed beautifully lined with oak planks and black rails. Imperfections include some bubbling, scratches, glass deglazing, staining on a rear quarter, chips, oxidized window reveals, dimples, and a scuff. At a distance, very little of this is evident.

Interior
Neat gray vinyl serves as the door card which contrasts nicely with the green paint while ivory escutcheons serve as the base for the simple door hardware. A gray vinyl bench is accompanied by silver seatbelts and presents in very nice condition ahead of the textured black steering wheel and simple dashboard with the gauges embedded in a perforated, oval faceplate in a sea of green painted surfaces and central glove box. A rubberized floor covering reaches up into the foot wells and gray vinyl paneling is used to line the ceiling and sidewalls with overlapping pieces cut to fit.

Drivetrain
Driver quality conditions may describe the aesthetics here where we find a 241ci Poly V8, rated at 145 horsepower and fueled through a 2-barrel carburetor. Its mated to a 3 on the tree 3-speed manual transmission with power routed through 3.90 gears out back.

Undercarriage
Very clean conditions are found with minimal surface rust and only some residual oil. Drum brakes are supplied to all four wheels and a single exhaust rust through a stock style muffler before exiting out back. Leaf spring suspension is utilized front and rear on this simple well constructed undercarriage.

Drive-Ability
With so many elaborate vehicles in our midst, the simplicity of this truck is a welcome change. So basic, so purposeful, the engine turns over without issue and the pickup makes its way around the test loop providing good power and straight track with all functions working. We note it pulls right on braking but thats our only demerit on this American classic. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

I owe, I owe, its off to work I go! That may have been the mantra of the working man in 1954, or maybe he just worked for the love of it! No doubt he was a skilled craftsman, driving his Dodge pickup from job to job, all with the confidence of a fine purpose built vehicle from Dodge. Its in retirement now and looking for someone to enjoy the kick back years!
