Classic Car Overview
Spectacular custom build. 427 cubic inch Chevy L36 V8, 4-speed manual, Corvette-style independent suspension, Air Ride, 4-wheel disc brakes. Late-model bed cleverly integrated into the design. Very cool hauler with plenty of firepower!
On a hugely complex custom build like this, it s tough to know where to start. The all-star powertrain? The trick suspension? The stunning bodywork with a late-model bed and chopped cab? The fully finished and functional interior? Dressing it in basic black was a great choice, because this sinister pickup gets attention without being overly flashy. There s a huge amount of work here, and not just in the modifications. Check out the body lines, the fit of the hood, and the way the 1954 fenders were integrated into the 90s Chevrolet pickup long bed. And, of course, the chopped top, which gives it a bad attitude yet doesn t compromise interior comfort. Nice! The headlights were frenched, the running boards modified with tasteful exhaust cut-outs, and everything was smoothed and finished before a drop of that miles-deep black paint went on. Look at the photos and you won t see any distortions, no ripples, no waves, just high-gloss black that reflects beautifully. There s a ton of time invested in this Chevy and it shows everywhere you look.
The interior is anchored by a pair of black leather buckets from a late-model, and they re all-day comfortable if you re into long-distance cruising. A custom tilt steering column topped by a Grant 3-spoke steering wheel adds to the comfort, and as I mentioned, there s plenty of headroom even with the chopped top. A Dakota Digital instrument panel handles monitoring the engine s vitals (the speedometer/odometer is not functioning), but the rest of the dashboard is smooth and clean, just like the rest of the truck. Important controls for things like the headlights and air suspension are hidden out of sight under the dash, and a custom center console was fabricated to hold the Sony entertainment system. That s a Hurst shifter for the Muncie 4-speed underneath, and the custom skull shifter knob is just plain cool, not cheesy. Inside the center console you ll find gauges for the Air Ride suspension as well as a little storage space. And that long pickup bed has become the world s biggest trunk thanks to a snug-fitting tonneau cover, full carpets, and a custom housing for the working parts of the air suspension system, including the compressor and tank. There s also a neatly-fitted filler for the gas tank, which lives safely under the bed.
For power, this full-sized pickup carries a full-sized V8: a 427 cubic inch Chevy V8. It s an L36 variant borrowed from a 1966 Corvette and making a smooth and easy 390 horsepower and a mountain of torque. It isn t at all high-strung, firing easily and idling properly, and with a hydraulic cam inside, it s low maintenance. There s a big 4-barrel carburetor on top, a set of finned Mickey Thompson valve covers, and a massive set of headers for the exhaust, so there s a supporting cast to help the engine be all it can be. And like the rest of the truck, the engine bay is an exercise in restraint and craftsmanship rather than flash. No chrome dress-up, just pure functionality with expert attention to detail. Note the brushed aluminum radiator, the neatly routed plug wires, the hidden wiring harness, and braided stainless lines for the power steering system. No wasted effort, just clean functionality. Underneath you get a custom fully independent suspension system with air springs at all four corners, so the ride can be fine-tuned on the fly, but it always keeps that awesome stance. The headers themselves are a work of art, leading to a 3-inch exhaust system with the aforementioned outlets in the running boards. The Muncie 4-speed shifts cleaning with light clutch action, and there s a vented disc brake at all four corners for impressive stopping power. There are signs of use, because this truck has been driven and is properly sorted, but again, the craftsmanship is evident throughout, and we remain very impressed. And even with the slammed stance, those massive 20-inch Ridler wheels fit perfectly and wear staggered 45/35/20 front and 275/30/20 rear performance radials.
Documentation includes receipts and other notes from the build, as well as a factory Chevrolet pickup owner s manual.
Look this truck over carefully. There were some expert craftsmen at work here, and you know that kind of build doesn t come cheap. The asking price is a fraction of the cost to build this awesome pickup. It has all the right hardware, the right look, and a nice dose of practicality with that long bed, making it a truck that easily earns its keep in the garage. Beautifully built, fun to drive, and great to show, this truck gets everything right. Call today!
