1954 Chevrolet Bel Air
From around 1956 until the mid 1980s, Dodge, Plymouth and even Chrysler squads were the most ubiquitous police cars in North America. In fact, the biggest department, the NYPD, used Plymouth and Dodge squads almost exclusively until the rear-drive M body car was finally axed in 1989.
The no-frills Savoy two-door sedan was home to another engine of considerable repute, the infamous 413 Max Wedge, a Super Stock monster block Chrysler introduced in the spring of 1962.
Classic Car Overview
This two-tone Romany Red over India Ivory Bel Air is in superb condition and is a great representation of the classic American style of its time. The recipient of a recent frame off restoration, every inch of the full-size Chevrolet has been lovingly refinished. The laser-straight body work accentuates the gleaming chrome molding and trim which is all complete. Bel Air series featured a wide chrome strip of molding from the rear fender bulge to the rear bumper. The inside of this stripe is painted its coordinating color with the outside body color, and "Bel Air" scripts were added inside the strip. The Chevrolet rolls on original steel wheels featuring full-size hub caps and are accented on the rear of the car with fender side skirts. Power is compliments of the 235 cubic-inch six-cylinder engine. The inline six has been upgraded with a famed Offenhauser intake manifold fitted with twin single-barrel carburetors and chrome air cleaners giving the Chevrolet extra power. Included with the Bel Air is the original factory intake manifold, carburetor and air cleaner. Topping off the well detailed engine is a chrome valve cover. This smooth-running engine is connected to the reliable three-speed manual transmission with column shifter. Inside the cavernous interior is the beautiful two-tone red and white upholstery. The entire cabin looks just like it did in 1954 with all materials in like-new condition. A first-generation 1954 Impala Bel Air is a unique find, especially one this nice. The effort and expense speak for themselves in the quality and craftsmanship that is evident in this great American classic. Don’t miss your chance to own this exceptional full-size Chevrolet gem.
