The Chevrolet Advance-Design trucks were introduced for the 1947 model year and represented a major redesign for Chevrolets pickup truck lineup following World War II. The 1954 Chevrolet 3100 was part of the final years of the Advance-Design series and featured the familiar rounded styling, five-window cab, and a 3100 designation for the half-ton pickup. For 1954, Chevrolet introduced its Hydra-Matic automatic transmission option to its light-duty trucks, making this an important year in the development of Chevrolets pickup trucks. The 235 cubic inch inline-six was the standard engine in the 3100 and was known for its durability and straightforward mechanical design. The five-window cab design, with additional side-window visibility behind the doors, has become one of the most recognizable features of these classic Chevrolet pickups.
