Model Year Highlights (1953):

Produced between October 1952 and March 1954, the 1953 Porsche 356 featured revised bumpers that continued through the end of the 356A generation. Side-by-side beehive taillights replaced the earlier vertical setup, while front signal indicators moved just below the headlights. The new steering wheel included a horn button adorned with the Porsche crest. Mechanically, the 1953 model was notable for introducing the Type 519 gearbox with Porsches own synchromesh on all forward gears and upgraded 11-inch aluminum brake drums. That year also saw the debut of the America-series coupe and cabriolet simplified models developed at the request of legendary U.S. importer Max Hoffman.
