Classic Car Overview
This 1953 MG TD has a long, well-documented history. It originated in Vancouver, Washington, and was sold to its Oregon owner in 1976, who kept it for more than 50 years. Its now California-titled and owned by a local collector friend. The car comes with over 45 years of repair orders showing consistent upkeep, along with the original owners manual. Though it still wears its Oregon Special Interest plates, its fully registered and titled in California.
The 1250cc (1.25L) engine starts easily and runs smoothly, showing 60 psi oil pressure. Shifting, braking, and handling all feel solid and engagingeverything works together to make it a genuinely fun car to drive.
The paint is older, shiny but weathered, with patina and flaws that suit its vintage character. Chrome trim presents well and appears to have been refinished at some point. The original steel wheels have also been refinished, wearing factory hubcaps and Classic Radial LL880 165/80 R15 tires with about 95% tread remaining. The top, side curtains, tonneau, and spare tire cover are all in very good shape.
Inside, the gauges are working properlyincluding the speedometer, odometer, tach, water temp, oil pressure, and amp gauges. All lights and the horn function, and theres a neatly installed, working solid-state AM radio in the glove box. The interior shows clean and tidy with older materials, good carpeting, and door panels. A wood-rim Moto-Lita steering wheel adds a nice period touch. Like many TDs, the drivers door needs to be lifted slightly to latch, and the wipers are currently inoperative.
Overall, this is an honest, well-cared-for MG that spent most of its life with one family. Its a great example to drive, enjoy, and tinker with. Be sure to check out all 280 photos and the video at www.leftcoastclassics.com.
