Classic Car Overview

1953 Chrysler New Yorker Deluxe Newport The New Yorker name was first introduced by Chrysler for their flagship model in 1940. They were produced until 1996, which at that time made it the longest running American car nameplate. The New Yorker changed a lot of things for Chrysler and helped to elevate their brand to compete with more upscale models like the Buicks, Cadillacs, etc. They were higher priced than others and equipped as such. This 1953 is not just the unique New Yorker but is the higher end, top of the line, Deluxe Newport Coupe making it the nicest money could buy. Only 3,715 were built and the amount remaining has been estimated by some to be fewer than 6. This particular car was originally sold by Epton Motor Company to its first owner in Pendleton, South Carolina. It has a clear title and also comes with the original Chrysler Owner Service Certificate. In 2014 the car was gone through and received a mechanical restoration as well as a repaint on the body. The roof is Caravan Beige but was not repainted due to it being in such good shape. The body is Cinnamon Metallic and has a great shine. Both colors are original (code 78) to the car. The car still retains all of its original sheet metal and is all rust free. It wears all of its original style trim/chrome pieces and they arent perfect but still in good shape. The glass is in good condition throughout with no cracks. It rides on a set of nice hobby car wire wheels with spinner style center caps which look great. They are wrapped with wide white wall Diamondback radial tires. The car doesnt have fender skirts but it almost appears like it does with the way the rear wheels tuck underneath. This is because it has been lowered 2 inches for an improved stance. As mentioned previously the drivetrain was entirely gone through and improved in 2014. It was turned into a really nice driver that moves down the road much better than it did originally. The original 331 hemi motor was all rebuilt using Hot Heads equipment. It is very well done throughout and got a new 270 cam, pistons, and heads. It also now features a rare 1954 4 barrel intake topped off with a new Demon carburetor and a custom made air cleaner. About $6,500 has been invested in the motor alone. The car would have originally come with a 2 speed but a large improvement is the 727 torqueflite transmission with a Hot Heads adapter plate. It shifts well and makes it much more road friendly. The car still has a 6 volt system but is super easy to start, so much so that you may not even realize it is still 6 volt. During the restoration it also received new dual exhaust (which sounds great), new driveshaft and new wheel bearings. Underneath the floors are all good. The interior of the car was completely redone in the correct pattern in a two tone style like the exterior. The material was supplied by SMS interiors out of Oregon and is in great condition. It has a split front bench seat and a bench in the rear so is very roomy. The d
