Engine/Engine Compartment: The engine compartment appears to have been treated to a partial amateur restoration. The engine and engine compartment shows light dust from storage and limited use. The belts and hoses are in very good condition. The radiator and firewall show paint flaking from age and use. The engine block has been repainted at some point in time but does show dirt and oil from use. This car does run and was started recently. There are no serious rust issues present in the engine compartment. Overall, the engine compartment is in very good condition.

Chassis: The restored frame and chassis components show light dust and surface rust. There is a spot in the frame that will need to be repaired (see photo).

Typical light grease is visible on the suspension from maintenance and use. The steel wheels and wheel covers appear in very good condition. The wide white wall tires appear good but will need replaced due to age. The front bumper shows areas of rust through. The bumper will need repaired or replaced. The exhaust system is rusty but is usable as it is. Overall, the chassis is in fair condition.

Interior: The interior is mostly original and is usable as it is. The front seat wears a seat cover. The foam backing on the underside of the seat cover is falling apart. Underneath the cover, the factory seat upholstery is torn. The rear seat still wears the factory upholstery. It is usable as it is but shows wear and dirt. The headliner is original and it shows staining but is usable as is. The glass appears in good condition. The entire interior shows wear from age and use. Overall, the interior is complete and able to be used. It is in fair condition.

Exterior: The exterior appears good from several feet away but upon close inspection there are noticeable issues. The white and black paint shows scratches and chips. There is corrosion visible near the edges of the paint under the stainless roof trim. The body panels appear good. The stainless-steel trim appears good but shows scratches and visible overspray. Overall, the entire exterior is in good condition.

Summary/Comments
The 1953 Chevrolet Belair is mostly original. The interior appears to be wearing the original upholstery. The exterior shows paint imperfections and corrosion especially on the edges of the white painted roof. The chassis is unrestored and rust through is visible on the front bumper. The engine compartment appears to have been touched up over the years, but the paint is now flaking from age. This car is complete and would make an excellent restoration project.

Overall, this car is drivable as is but would need a complete restoration to be considered show quality.
