For 1951, Plymouth replaced its familiar Deluxe and Super Deluxe model names with a new hierarchy comprising the Concord, Cambridge, and Cranbrook. The Cranbrook occupied the upper end of Plymouths lineup, and all three names remained in use through the 1953 model year, lending Plymouths dependable and affordably priced automobiles a more distinctive identity.
Plymouths of this era earned a reputation for rugged, straightforward mechanicals, and the 1952 Cranbrook was no exception. Power came from the proven 218-cubic-inch inline-six, rated at 97 horsepower and paired with a three-speed manual transmission operated by a column-mounted shifter. Styling remained deliberately conservative, reflecting Chrysler President K.T. Kellers well-known preference for automobiles with generous passenger space and upright seating. In the open Cranbrook Convertible Club Coupe, however, Plymouth combined that practicality with the considerable appeal of top-down motoring.
This example is attractively finished in dark green with a contrasting cream convertible top and a two-tone black and white interior. Period equipment includes an AM radio, in-dash clock, dual mirrors, amber-lens fog lamps, and a driver-side spotlight, while the power-operated convertible top adds a welcome measure of convenience. Wide whitewall tires complete its handsome period presentation.
Offered from The James G. Robinson Collection, this Cranbrook was restored under prior ownership and presents in good overall condition today. Combining Plymouths famously durable engineering with handsome open-air styling and appealing period accessories, this 1952 Cranbrook Convertible Club Coupe offers an approachable and enjoyable way to experience early-1950s American motoring.
