VW Kombi Van Seeing Resurgence in Popularity

The Volkswagen Kombi van reached iconic status, with even a school lunch box fashioned in its image. During those early years, the Volkswagen Microbus morphed into various forms. From a cargo carrier with no windows behind the driver's seat to a windowed passenger van with three rows of seats, the possibilities seemed endless.

Classic Car Overview

You want history? This car has been owned by the same father/son for the past 55 years! Now offered for sale is this beautiful 1952 MG TD, a model that represents one of the most important chapters in British motoring history. Produced by MG (Morris Garages) in the early postwar years, the TD helped ignite Americas love affair with European sports cars, combining prewar styling with flowing fenders, upright grille, and open cockpit with more modern engineering such as independent front suspension and rack-and-pinion steering. Built between 1950 and 1953, the TD was exported in large numbers to the United States, where its nimble handling, mechanical simplicity, and engaging driving experience made it a favorite among returning servicemen and enthusiasts alike. Today, the MG TD stands as a symbol of classic motoring at its purest, lightweight, elegant, and wonderfully analog making it a highly desirable collectible for those who appreciate both its historical significance and timeless charm.

If you are looking for a concours quality, 100-point car, KEEP LOOKING. This is a beautifully restored driver that is sure to turn heads. Finished in a very dark British Racing Green (a custom color from Jaguar/Rover), the car presents and drives extremely well. High quality (amateur) restoration completed 4 years ago, including full engine and transmission rebuilds, new seats, new top and side curtains, Brooklands steering wheel, custom Sapele wood dash, custom cherry wood package shelf and side curtain compartment cover with access panel for differential, LED lighting, and too many other new items to list. The car has numerous drivability upgrades, which make it among the most reliable 75-year-old cars on the road today: PerTronix distributor with electronic ignition; electronic SU fuel pump (no points, but it still clicks and looks like the original); PerTronix "Flame Thrower" ignition coil; Dynamator (alternator that looks like the original generator and does not require a voltage regulator); adjustable oil pressure regulator; spin-off oil filter; adjustable clutch linkage; third brake light mounted in spare tire hub; solenoid operated battery disconnect; custom vacuum operated oil recovery system to catch the drips from the rear oil seal; modern gauges with GPS speedometer/tachometer combo, water temperature and oil pressure gauge, voltage gauge (replaces the ammeter), and analog clock; and turn signals.

There are a few minor imperfections in the paint, which shows at a good 8-9/10. There is absolutely no rust or rot. All in all, this is a fine car that you can drive on a regular basis and have fun taking to shows. I've driven the car since 1971. In all that time, it has NEVER left me stranded along the side of the road! Everything works as it should on the car except the windshield wipers--they are installed, but the motor is not working.

All of the drivability modifications are completely reversible, if you prefer originality over reliability. I have kept all the original parts (distributor, voltage regulator, generator, fuel pump, gauges, dashboard), which will be included in the sale, if you want them.
