1952 Allard M2X

This MX2 Drophead, powered with a Cadillac 331 V-8, was ordered new in 1952, by a New England family, who retained ownership until this year. This car has been taken care of and stored indoors over its 72-year life. It was driven for pleasure and used in VSCCA events into the 1980s when it was dry stored. The odometer in the speedometer indicates 49,000 miles which is suspected to be original miles from new.

Mechanical features include the Cadillac 331 engine with a 2bbl Rochester Carburetor. Jaguar drum brakes, Ford rear-end with torque tube drive shaft and Ford 3-speed floor shift transmission. The front suspension is of Allard J2X style with a parallel axis split axle beam front suspension. The Allard Registry reports overall weight to be 2200lbs, which combined with the Cadillac 331, it is a powerful car for the period.

Cosmetically, the exterior is painted with Cadillac Cape Ivory, Color code #40. The paint is in very respectable condition and the car is thought to have been repainted in the 60s, or early 70s. The interior is red burgundy leather, and shows used, wear and age. There is an inoperable Motorola radio and Sun electric tachometer mounted in the dash. The body, is primarily aluminum, the steel chassis and other steel components of the body have minor surface rust.

The M2X Allard is a rare car. Twenty-five are known to have been built and of those four M2Xs are known to exist. Most Allard MX2s were built with Ford Flathead V-8s. This example was built with the Cadillac engine which makes it very desirable.

It is in running/driving condition. A buyer must assume that it is an example of a vehicle ready for restoration. Perhaps, it could be used, as is, with a mechanical inspection and freshening before any road use but is offered without that recommendation.
