Classic Car Overview

1951 Ford Country Squire Woody Wagon - Rat Rod

This Woody was purchased recently from a fellow in NC who's owned it for roughly 14 years. Before that, it spent much of it's time on Long Island, NY being used as people and luggage transport for a Southampton resort. She was built in Edgewater, NJ. 1951 was the last year for a true wood body (although in 51, the wood was no longer fully structural) They made just over 29,000 of them in 51.

The 239 flathead V8 is believed to be the original engine. There are about 91,000 miles on the odometer. The engine starts immediately when cold and runs smoother than a Swiss watch, the thing is silent. The previous owner had gone through the front suspension replacing the upper A arms, bushings and installing a lowering kit (we think it's a Shoebox Central kit) that drops the front end close to 4 inches via new springs, shocks and spindles. New brakes parts were also installed.

The rear was dropped via aluminum blocks.

When the car came back north to CT, the current owner put new wide white radials on her (Auburn Deluxe radials 6.50xR15), new gas tank, fuel lines, spark plugs, cap, rotor and wires. Belts were replaced as well.

The wood is pretty good on one side, definitely restorable if that's your plan, the driver side is a little more worse for wear, but still solid. It appears as though the door wood was replaced at some point - it doesn't fully match the rear wood and the name plate "Country Squire" is in the wrong location, with no holes where it would normally be located.

The metal structure is also mostly solid. The frame is solid but has scale, the floors are solid (one area behind the driver seat was patched at some point in time) and the rockers, well, they're not. The rockers on both sides are not structural but definitely have some holes and one of the body mounts on the driver side is in rough shape but still doing it's job. Both front fenders have some rot in the rear section behind the wheel well and the passenger side had a dent that was popped.

The interior is old and a bit worn but also solid. There is no headliner and the seats are sort of bouncy but the vinyl is in really good condition. The door cards appear to be original in the funky metal painted to look like wood design.

As mentioned earlier, she starts right up ( the start button will be replaced before she's sold) and idles super smooth. The drives well, the three on the tree manual transmission shifts very easily, brakes stop her just as they should. The lights work, the blinkers work, the horn does not. Heat is not connected.

She is currently in Rat Rod mode and all I'd do if I owned her would be to change out to dual exhaust so the wonderful note the flathead V8 makes would be heard and felt, maybe put a little Sweet Patina/Shine Juice on her.. then I'd take her out to cruise nights, rod runs, etc. and just have fun.

Of course, if you want her back to how she came out of the factory, she's a very good base for a restoration to start from.

Asking price is $22500

Any questions, for many more photos and video, to schedule a time to view her in person or to simply make an offer, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thanks for the interest.
