Classic Car Overview

1951 Ford F1 Pickup

For consignment, a 1951 Ford F1 pickup showing 16,769 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a PA title exemption. This one packs a 350ci V8 and Mustang II front suspension and is covered in cant miss red.

Exterior
Leading the way on the Vermillion Red rig are the two rounded front fenders, that meld themselves into the grille which is flanked by a single headlight on either side. F1 designation is called out on the trim spear along the hood while a reflective band bumper and Ford emblem dress the front. Extended fenders are visually brought together by the red running boards while black Vision Legend Series wheels anchor the truck as it hunkers down on the 17-inch fronts and 18-inch rears. From behind, the tailgate Ford stamping pops off the red with white and the rear bumper has been shaved and includes flush rectangle tail lights with symmetrical chrome tips emerging from under them. Oak planks that show some patina reside between stainless rails in the bed that also carries a black spare and the sidewalls retain the glossy red paint seen throughout. Imperfections are few and include various chips, some bubbling, cracked paint, rough surface in a door jamb, and blistering down low.

Interior
Featured is a Million Dollar Cab, (it cost $1 million to design and tool), which Ford proclaimed. It had Living Room comfort, and it was much higher and wider than before, and better fitted. This cab features a better than factory 2 tone red and black vinyl bench seat, a pattern also used on the door panels. Up front is a custom tailored dash which now has nickel faced AutoMeter gauges in a glossy black faceplate. In the middle a ribbed speaker panel painted silver and bounded by a chrome trim piece has a Jensen AM/FM/Cassette radio now neatly inserted while a tachometer perches on top. Black carpet floods the floors from which a pistol grip shifter emerges and our headliner is black fiberboard presenting clean overhead.

Drivetrain
A clean presentation is also found under the hood where a 350ci V8 resides, complete with Edelbrock 4-barrel carb over Edelbrock intake. Its backed by a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission that routes power to the Ford 9 rear axle and 3.73 gears. Headers are on board as well as power brakes and power steering, and the truck runs on a 12 volt system.

Undercarriage
Some typical surface rust makes its way under the truck on an otherwise clean underside. Here, dual exhaust runs from the headers to glasspack style mufflers and out the back via chrome tips. Power disc brakes occupy the front wheels and power drums are found out back. Suspension includes a Mustang II front end and leaf springs handling the chore in back.

Drive-Ability
A well sorted and reliable build means this quick starter makes its way around the test loop without a hiccup, providing a smooth ride that tracks straight, good braking, and handling that had not even been dreamed about in 1951. And part of that comes from the ZR rated, 50 series tires on the truck. In the end, all functions on board worked just as intended and we headed back to the showroom in this fire engine colored Ford. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

We dont see many 51 Ford trucks for some reason, and this is a fantastic example with a small block up front and Fords stout 9 in back. Shes show and go ready; all she needs is a new pilot and a fresh garage!
