Classic Car Overview
1951 Ford F1 Custom Pickup
The Ford F1 was the start of the long running F-Series of pickup trucks, and is one of the most beautiful trucks of the last 75 years. Because of that, it makes a great basis for hot rodding - and this 1951 F1 was taken to the extreme. Walking up to the truck from the front, it has the visuals of an old farm truck, with incredible patina on the red paint, but walk around the side and the set of staggered 18/20-inch wheels starts to give away there might be more to it than expected.
Built by PRE Racing in Portland Oregon, this truck is hiding quite a secret under the hood in the form of a 4.6-liter 3-valve aluminum Ford V8, topped with a Roush Stage 3 supercharger kit. Thanks to the TVS2300 blower and a custom dyno tune by PRE, the truck makes 505 horsepower at the wheels, which is run through a 5-speed automatic transmission that also has a custom PRE tune. Along with these modifications, the entire cooling system has been upgraded with an aluminum radiator up front and an upgraded transmission cooler beneath the truck. Power is then sent through a TAD driveline to an 8.8-inch rear end with a 3.50 limited slip differential. To make sure the sound was right, a custom exhaust with an electronic cut-out was also installed.
Under the truck, the chassis has also been extensively modified by Ricks Customs with extensive reinforcements, a Billet 4-link rear end, and Heidt independent front suspension. QA1 billet adjustable coilovers are fitted at all four corners, and rear air bags allow for height adjustment. Front and rear sway bars have been installed, along with Heidt drop spindles so the car still drives nicely when lowered. Wilwood disc brakes help slow the truck down with 6-piston front calipers and 4-piston rears, with a matching Wilwood master cylinder.
On the interior, the truck has once again been transformed with a combination of black leather and Alcantara on the two heated, power adjustable bucket seats, and a custom console between the two. Power windows and door locks have been installed, along with a backup camera and air conditioning. In front of the driver sits an adjustable steering column with a 3-spoke steering wheel, with a set of modern Dakota Digital gauges sitting behind them. A JL Audio stereo has been installed with navigation, phone integration and Bluetooth connectivity, and Dynamat has been fitted for improved sound and heat insulation.
Outside of the truck, Halo headlights with additional driving lights situated in the bumper are also giveaways that this is no stock Ford F1, and the chromework is in exceptional condition. But to the average enthusiast, there is nothing to suggest the seriousness of what lays under the hood.
If you love classic trucks, you already know the significance of the Ford F1, but this example is hiding the secret of mind-blowing performance beneath the surface. For a real hot rod built by professionals, it doesnt get much better than this - a truck that is almost certainly one of the best sleepers on the road.
