Classic Car Overview
1951 Ford Custom Deluxe Tudor Sedan
For consignment a 1951 Ford Custom Deluxe Tudor sedan showing 6/10s of a mile, but the true miles are unknown due to a faulty odometer. This stunning build takes the shoebox design to a whole new level. Grab a corkscrew and lets decant this one!
Exterior
Well get to paint a color soon enough, but its the overall stance of the car that registers first in your brain. 17-inch Foose wheels in black, and 55 series tires host the lowered body with a slight rake that has you doubting this is something from the early 50s. Then the Merlot Metallic hits you like a hangover after a night of Two Buck Chuck. Its impact is magnified by a car that is decked, nosed, frenched, shaved and fully dechromed. The prominent torpedo grille is now matte black as is the side trim spoke, tail light bezels and window reveals; all bringing out the deep, rich black tones in the paint. Imperfections are few and include some edge chips on the decklid, edge scuffs on the cowl and wheel opening, minor scratches, inclusions, a spot of underpainting, and a fender corner chip.
Interior
A nice contrast is offered by the Saddle leather, pleated on the door panels and wrapped artfully around the pull handles, and looking fresh. The material covers the split bench with perfection and carries over to the rear bench where occupants enjoy plush tan carpet underfoot. The matching rim of the banjo steering wheel shows attention to detail as does the use of leather on the dash, under a wine colored dash shelf and a multi function central Classic Instruments gauge with a cream colored face. Weve got some loose wires through a hole on one side and the Ford crest on the other, the glovebox anchoring the dash to the right in glossy Merlot paint. Tan carpet covers the floor with leather clad footwell walls, and a Hurst shifter lives on the hump, ready for action. The headliner is clean and smooth and the trunk has a battery box and black cloth mat coverage.
Drivetrain
The clean engine bay sets the stage with matte black side walls between which youll find a Blueprint Crate 302ci v8 with Blueprint aluminum heads, Holley Sniper electronic fuel injection, and a Blueprint intake. Its mated to a Tremec TR3551 TKX 5-speed manual transmission that routes power to the Ford 9 axle. Headers are on board along with power steering, power brakes, and air conditioning.
Undercarriage
Clean painted and show quality is how youll find the underside, as we did, and the stainless dual exhaust runs through glasspack style mufflers and terminates under the car for a stealthy exit. All four wheels enjoy power disc brakes and suspension consists of front and rear coil overs with swing arms in back.
Drive-Ability
Were impressed with this build, inside and out looking immaculate and tight. The 302 comes to life without issue and the exhaust puts out a pleasing rumble as we let this Merlot Ford flow onto the test loop. We note very soft brakes that will need immediate attention as only the left front brake is working. A few other things that are not working; the rear turn signals, brake lights, all gauges including speedometer and odometer, and the heater blower. As an aside, there are no wipers on board. All remaining functions operate as they should on this three year old build. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Esthetically, this car is an A+, with careful attention to detail in every aspect. With a few of the functional issues wrapped up, this becomes a potential multi show winner wherever you take it. Fords shoebox has never looked so good! You can scratch tires off the list as these meats have an early 2023 date code.
