Classic Car Overview

1950 Ford Custom Deluxe Sedan World War II put automobile production on hold. Production ceased on February 10, 1942 and resumed in 1946. When production began, most vehicles offered by marques were basically carried over from pre-war development. It was not until 1949 when Ford began offering new designs. They featured simple lines that were clean and well integrated into the body. In the front was a dramatic and artful bullet nosed grille. NO TITLE-SOLD ON A BILL OF SALE ONLY The era of pontoon fenders and high-riding automobiles was over and Ford broke out of the gate with a smaller, stunningly stylish car that blended militaristic themes with slab-sided functionality. This car is the beneficiary of a previous restoration attempt and shows in fair condition with orange peel paint, some dimpling on the chrome and faded chrome parts. One has gotta love the front grille with its rocket styling and futuristic curvaceous body panels it was ready willing and able for the fab 50s to come along and provide its service to suburbia. Exterior All steel with attached chrome upfront sporting a center bullet style ring and building on this design to complete the entire grille. Chrome is in fair condition showing some areas of dimpling as well. Steel shows with no rust and is all bathed in blue respray. This car has one of the coolest hood ornaments, with chrome shaped like a speeding train and topped with clear plastic in art deco style. A big body length trim spear is attached below the midline. In back 2 squinting oval taillights are in the mid section of what seem to be the beginnings of fins? Along with a dulled rear bumper below and chrome tipped exhaust peeking out from under. All 4 corners are the steel wheels painted red with chrome dog dish caps around the outside and bordered with thin wide whites, which are tires from the era. Interior A swing of the classic doors and we greet blue and white vinyl panels. Some sag in the material is creating a few wrinkles in these panels. A bench in front, and full bench in the back, these seats have shades of blue and black with some intermixed white and present in a plaid square pattern. A shining example of the original metal dash with exterior matching curved design in pristine silver houses a large centered speedo with surrounding oil, battery, temp, and fuel gauges. We note a central clock is above an original oval faced round push button Ford radio. Fronting the dash is a cream bakelite steering wheel with chromed horn half ring and it has a knuckle buster knob attached. All original knobs and controls are present and accounted for. Interior carpeting has been removed and its simply the steel of the floorboards, Drivetrain Under the hood in an unrestored but clean engine bay is a 239ci Flathead V8 engine. It is topped by an oil bath air cleaner covering a 2-barrel carburetor and has a 3-speed manual transmission on the back. 3.73 gears are for the rear axle. Undercarriage Surface rust covers the frame, however it is structurally sound. Floor pans still retain their original rustproofing. Body hangers are good and solid. Drum brakes are all around. An overall good clean example of the 1950 Custom Deluxe, fair paint, and worn vinyl blue plaid interior, as well as a nice looking dash and unrestored engine and bay.
